What's the consensus on 980ti

Hey Guys,

planning on upgrading my 970 to 980ti, but with the recent price drops as well as aggressive pricing from AMD r300; is this a good time to buy? will prices drop further? is 980ti even worth compared to furyx (assuming I'll even be able to get one in stock somewhere).

any input appreciated.

kinda hovering over checkout button on overclockers msi daily offer.

The 980 Ti is faster than any of the R9 300 series and in most cases faster than the Fury X so ehm yeah. Up to you to decide if the extra money is worth it to ya, but nobody is going to tell you off for buying a 980 Ti if that's what you're afraid of :p

oh no I never doubted 980ti performance as much as I support amd's hbm I still would like more raw performance. I'll give it some more though but will most likely upgrade :3 was curious if there's anything else on the radar in regards to price drops etc.

Yes it is.

Why??

What if i wanted to play GTA at 1080p fully maxed out with 8xAA and then 8xAA on reflections

I reckon a 980Ti would cope quite well

Can't say its pointless unless you know the use case, playing Facebook Poker would make the 980Ti pointless at 1080p

I meant that it's pointless in general on 1080p 60Hz. GTA is one of few games that are heavy on GPU power.

What about Heaven?

It might be pointless for some users but it really isn't pointless for everyone. Plus future upgrades.

Ahh ffs... it ain't then. I don't really give a crap about it to be honest.

Mate you can't have a hissy fit when someone counteracts your argument, it's a public forum were members voice their expirences and opinions, not Chrazey3D.net where your word is gospel.

I simply mentioned a use case where a 980Ti would be a good buy.

I'm not really at all. I just wrote it cause I don't really give a crap about it in all honesty :). Since I have an 980Ti already and I'm happy with it :)

Although that Chrazey3D.net would be quite nice indeed ;)

Isn't the 980ti a bit "pointless" for 1080p 60hz monitors?

Quite possibly very true, I would be playing on 1440p first of all though and plan on upgrading 2nd monitor to 144hz for dat csgo 1337 skillz xxawwyeahxx.

and hopefully down the line main monitor to 4k and sli or new card :3

What monitor do you have now if I may ask? :) ... And what monitor regarding 144Hz? :)

At least it didn't get into that argument "OMG GET A 290x to play BF4 on Ultra"
while a 270x/280 could max it out xD

No it couldn't. Not at a decent, stable framerate anyway.

-edit-

The 980Ti is an absolute cracker, and unlike the Fury X there isn't a massive supply issue.

Should be fixed within next couple months.

980ti and the Fury X are pretty darn close. I would say in an overall performance comparison(980ti/furyX) 60/40 would be about a good estimate. If you are purely looking for Bench numbers, Nvidia performs better in those, pretty much since GCN was introduced it was that way. Something about GCN the major bench's just don't like.

If you look around on the net, you can find some reviews of the Fury X basically being a 980ti or better. Really just depends where you look. In all honesty i would aim for a Fury. Faster than a 980 and not the far behind a fury X. It's a big jump from a 390x, which I own, and it's seriously making me want to sell my 390x(which is close to 980's as it is) for a Fury. It's worth the hassle and upgrade. It's without a doubt the best price/performance high tier card out.

You should only be looking at Fury X if you run 4k, or are about to.

Well, you could actually go with it to support team red and because you don't like Nvidia but that's a different story...

I did it for both reasons really. The Fury X is also cooler and quieter than any 980ti.
