what to look for in a UPS

so i want to buy a UPS to hook my PC and my Ps3 to. but im not really sure what im looking for. my PC has a 750W PSU, but i probably only use like 400W max. and idk how much a PS3 console uses. but am i more concerned about the Wattage of the UPS or the VA or what? im just looking to get one so that when we lose power (which happens during any good storm, and actually is happening right now) my stuff doesnt just plain shut off. id rather be able to stop (save) what im doing and shut everything off manually. im not looking to be able to actually use the systems for hours during an outtage, just enough, as i said, to save everything, close everything, and shut down manually.

so yea, what is a good UPS, what should i be looking for? im not looking to break my bank on this, but i understand quality is money.

Power has only gone out twice since I started working there, all the CNCs shut down and the lights go out, but I just keep working while all the mechanics are running around checking everything.

You could use a smaller version than this tho. You could get away with the 670W one. (SMT 1000)

i see reviews talking about support or non support of active PFC PSUs. will this be an issue? haha i have no clue what it means.

also, i appreciate your time and help and pointing out specific brands and models. but i would also like to learn what i am supposed to be looking at. what makes a good UPS. what will be sufficient enough for my needs, etc. if you or anyone else could help provide me with some basic knowledge, that would be great

Hmmm... As I do have a model that is geared more at enterprise use I have had no problems... But I can see where there COULD be an issue... If the issue is "real" than It would be a much bigger issue on other brands of UPSs: as APC has the fastest switching and highest quality on the market. 8ms switch time from the grid to battery is basically the top of the price range you are looking for. It seems to me that the only "solution" to the reviews you read are if the UPS didn't have a switch and relayed the power through the battery and cut off the grid when it went down... I personally don't know of any that are like this and have a good life expectancy... As I said, I have a higher end model and it has never failed me yet. Sorry I can't give you a solid answer.
