What cpu for 1080ti?

Hey guys,

I am currently running an i7 4790k, 16gb 2400mhz, 1000rm and an Asus strix 1080ti. The screen I'm using is an acer predator xb271 1440p 165hz.

I notice the gpu doesn't run at a constant 99% gpu usage when playing games. Well it does in ghost recon wildlands, but bf1 max sits between 85 and 98%, if I put the res scale up the usage goes to 99% but fps goes down and I obviously want to sit as close to 165fps as I can. Other games do the same, not utilising the full gpu power.

I'm guessing this is cpu bottleneck. So my question is as the title says.. what cpu would stop this small bottleneck??

well the best is the 7700k at 5ghz but i dont think many people here will recommend it now with the likes of coffeelake round the corner and especially seeing as you already have a good i7

It's perfectly normal. It's incredibly rare to see 100% utilisation in anything tbh. It could be copying and swapping from memory or god knows what else.

I would say your CPU is about perfect for gaming, and upgrading for gaming would be a wast of money.

There is literally only a couple of percent difference in frame rate between the lowest i3 and the fastest i7. Save your money.

Have you overclocked the CPU? I can run 4,5 on all cores without ekstra volts.
Haven't actually looked that much into if the GPU is at 100% all the time.
