Dark "Rock" Pro (oh you're talking about the Be-Quiet dark power PSU)

It's made by Be-Quiet. There top end stuff are really nice. Like NH D14 only with one more heat pipe and have steel heat caps to draw more heat out of the heat pipes and away from cooling fins. Also have rubber vibration dampeners on fans where clips are attached to fan case. Wondering if they will clear taller ram where the nh d14 wont.

Would love to see Tom do a nh d14 vs. Dark Rock Pro...I believe the dark rock pro will come out on top

Snap the ram ya fanny. It takes about ten mins, makes no difference to the ram and gives you the best cooler on the earth. Seriously, stop being a pussy mmkay?

BTW dude. From some one who has had the same chip as you.. No other cooler is going to allow the Overclocks I got with the NH. None. I've used Corsairs, other Noctuas ETC ETC. The NH is the best cooler you can get and worth snapping the ram for.

i was hoping not to snap the RAM just cos i dont want the hassle lol.

mate this cooler is a pos it just needs replacing its not like i am after a massive OC but i CANT oc with this cooler lol.

The Scythe Mugen 2 is decent. I'd take AlienALX's advice though. He speaks the truth.

AMD does need lower temps to get decent stable clocks.

TBH though AMD I seem to remember your version of overclocking is just to wang the multiplyer. Thats probably your biggest problem, you are not doing it right to start with

thats correct that was my way of overclocking but then i mixed them both but found no matter what i did i was still hitting the max temps to soon something like 1.37v at 3.3Ghz,so i do need a better cooler.

1.4250v @ 3803mhz stable. That was just with the multi. I got it to 3908 but it wasn't so stable

Dude, snapping the ram is easy. Needlenose pliers. Stick them gently between the outer and first inner 'peg'. Insert to the edge of the heatsink, bend outward. Snaps right off. Go along doing the others, then move to the inners.

Yes it's time consuming and yes it's a fiddly bugger but just trust me, it's worth it. The way ram prices are going now you wouldn't get bugger all for it if you sold it and I can promise you it makes absolutely and utterly no difference to the ram. The Noctua though?

Well, 3800 stable @ 35 idle and 46 load says it all IMO. All of that with pretty much no noise. The good bit is you won't even see the snapped ram. How many sticks do you have of it? I had to snap 3 of 4 IIRC. If you use banks 2 and 4 if your board is laid out like that you might not even have to snap more than one. I can't remember if I had to snap all of mine now..

Edit. OK I'm pretty sure you had 2x2. In that case you are definintely being a fannyflaps. If you do have 2x2 then you literally need to snap one, providing your board works 1-3 or 2-4.

As you can see, I had to snap three of mine.

Good part is that even if you're a vain willy then you don't see the snapped one/s.

Noobishness...what is snapping the ram Lol

Have you even tested the Dark rock pro out. Are you making an uninformed or biased decision?

If you have any results from your testing I would love to see them because that would help me decide also

Oh I get it you're talking about modifying the ram to fit under a cooler that doesnt allow tall ram.

IMO...bad form. Just get a proper cooler, shorter RAM or have a an adapter made for your cooler that raises your cooler to the proper height. <-This is bad form too but has to be better than breaking your RAM

Have I even tested the Dark rock pro out.. Hmm, let's see.. Well, unless I have a time machine sitting in my back garden and can get into it and go into the future? the answer would be no. Simply as it isn't released yet (at least here in the UK).

Well I'm not exactly sure what 'testing' you are referring to because as I said, the DRP isn't out yet. From what I can gather from the pics it's a twin 120mm design. And given that there is about two million of those on the market and none of them can match up to the NH-D14 then I think it's fair to say that it won't be able to compete. But hey ho, no point discussing it any further as I'm not into vaporware. I prefer products you can actually buy.

Coming soon…

Further coolers by be quiet! in future will be added to the product range regularly.

As for how the Noctua performs on AMD? Actually yes I can help you out with that. I was literally 80mhz or so away from hitting 4ghz with a 940.

The venom dripping sarcasm was entertaining but unnecessary. I don't have a time machine either or a teleporter to travel from US to UK or other country to know whats for sale there. I also don't a device that lets me read your mind so I know where your from or if I can your wearing a tin foil hat to block me out Lol. From your thumb nail that says phillies, I thought you were in US...silly me, I assumed and made an *ss out of myself Lol.

Your bottom answer was perfect and appreciated

Do you know what puzzles me with you? You come along, talk to people like crap and then seem to get all offended when they speak back to you in the same manner.

Noobishness...what is snapping the ram Lol

You see? it's called condescending. And before you reply saying it's only me it isn't. I clearly remember you speaking to AMDFTW like crap and him getting rather annoyed.

At which point you need to have a word with yourself.

Are you making an uninformed or biased decision?

See? there is another example. If you are going to go on the offensive and talk to people like that don't be bloody surprised when you are spoken to as you speak.

As for an answer to it? Yes, actually. I am making an incredibly informed decision seeing as I have had about five coolers sat on my AMD before finally listening to advice and getting a NH-D14. The simple matter of fact is it is the best cooler in the world right now. And, I have come to that conclusion after using several of the other 'supposed' best coolers in the world. NH92, NH-C12P, Corspoo H50 ETC ETC. None of them got within 9c of the NH-D14.

I think you all need to start rowing or Ill get the ban stick out.

AMD what temps you getting on your current cooler on load? I still think you are doing it wrong.

at 1.37v 3.3ghz it gets to like 55c on a 10 pass linX

1.4v 3.5ghz gets me around 60c-61c same linX

see it likes idle but as soon as u hit the loads it cant cope.

thats with the multi but as i said if i lower the multi and up the bus its the same kinda temps

edit-its all back to stock now anyways till i get a new cooler 61c at that voltage is not good even for the phenom 2 you can go to 1.5v and sit there quite happy me i would be hitting 90c.

the only thing i havent played with is the NB and that cos its at auto and i cant find the stock?

might just be a hot chip tbh. tbh fellas if you want to rage the overclocks on your chip Id get a new cooler, but tbh something inside me wants to tell you to save up and change the CPU aswell matey

Firstly. What are you using to monitor your temps bro?

HWMON for me was total fail. It reported a 46c idle on my NH-C12P. Do you have the Asus probe software? if so try that. It reported like 38c, a wild difference. I mean honestly how could a 940 at 3400 idle at 46?

What I did find out about my 940 was that as soon as it hit a genuine 52c it was game over. No matter how stable, no matter how small the overclock. It just did not like anything more than that. As soon as the temp probe hit 53 I got artefacts, a buzz from my speakers and a hard reset. I did check to see if my board was designed to cut out thermally but it was set to 63.. Weird !

Ive never had any issues with HWmon I use it for all my reviews. You sure the Asus app doesnt report the socket temp Alien, if so it will be lower as its not the actual temp of the cores.
