What combo would you take?

Hi!

I'm building a new comp and this are the 2 choices I’m interested in:

1.combo

MB: ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe WiFi-AP

Proc: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Box

Mem: Super Talent DIMM Kit 2048MB DDR2 PC800 CL4

Graphics: Zotac GeForce 8800 GT AMP! Edition, 512MB

Price around 600 Euro.

2.combo

MB: ASUS P5N32-E SLI LGA775 FSB1333 ATX nForce 680i

Proc: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Sockel-775 boxed

Mem: Super Talent DIMM Kit 2048MB DDR2 PC800 CL4

Graphics: Zotac GeForce 8800 GT AMP! Edition, 512MB

Price around 680 Euro.

I’m still waiting for the Ati 3850/3870 card to come out, but now is my choice the 8800gt.

Which one would you suggest? And if you would make any changes to these combos, please share (but keep in mind that 680 Euro is the most I can go, but better is less (I still have to buy a new PSU)?

Thx,

Personally, I`d go for the 2nd combo and switch the ASUS for an Abit IP35 pro.

With newer AM2+ boards on the horizon (1 actually out now I believe), u`ll immediately be buying urself old-tech with the 1st combo. If the AM2+ boards were here I`d seriously consider combo 1 with 6400+ and whatever Abit 790 comes to light. Could be weeks or months for that tho.

Hi!

Thx for the reply. But is this Abit IP35 Pro MB, sli capable, because this is a big issue for me. So I can upgrade it with a second GraCa in sli mode, when I’ve saved enough money.

Thx.

No its not (officially, hacked drivers are another thing...).

But dual graphics card set-ups are a total waste of time, and are for the foreseeable future.

Your much better buying your single 8800GT and putting the money that you would have spent on a 2nd into saving for the next generations flagship card.

Seconded

Been there, done that - moved back instantly :)

Hear on the grapevine also that hacked SLI drivers for non SLI mobo use, are limited to nVidia`s 7 or 6 series gfxcards and their drivers.

Something to do with nVidia encoding the way it`s being done from a certain driverset onwards.

Rumors come out from time to time about deals being done for chipsets only seemingly being quashed a few days later.

As the guys say tho, apart from getting a one off benchmark, SLI aint worth the bother.
