What card is required to run 1680x1050?

One of my friends is on a budget and is looking to buy a 20" widescreen monitor but would like to know what budget cards will run it okay?

He has an AGP system, what could you recommend?

Well, anythign on AGP with a res like that will struggle in top games now. If he wants to go flat out at them settings, i myself dont think hes got a hope.

To get anything close to reasonable frames at that res, and medium gfx settings he will need to go for the best AGP card out there

For games, top agp you can really, even with just a little bit of aa/af.

Depends what he wants to do on that res, if he doesnt mind turning down the resolution then quite a few AGP cards will be fine, if he doesnt want to then i think his best options are a second hand 6800Ultra, a good overclocking 6800GT, or if he can stretch to it he could get a 7800GS which is better than a 6800U but costs about £200.

See, I was thinking that - but he went for an x1600 512MB anyway I think. I'm hoping that'll be okay for games like Pacman etc...
