What are AMD Teasing?

Strange about the 285X, there was news last week that AMD aren't making a 285X just a 285.

My guess is that the R9 285X was only intended to be released in the R9 3XX series, perhaps as the R9 370X.

I'm not sure what they are doing with the 285X but it looks like they did originally have it planned as the 285X. They must have changed their mind along the way, probably when Nvidia announced the 960.

guess we find out tomorrow what this big seecret is.. last couple of times i have been dissapointed. if this is just a seddion aio strapped on to a older R seriese card they have over clocked as far as possible i will be dissapointed and will forever more ignore their marketing

Haha #fail indeed if that is the case.

But I suppose you'd best wait to see if that is really the case.

They may be announcing their old and some new products for the India market.

Looks like it is legit, Gibbo from OCUK just posted this in the thread about this on there :)

Can't post a link to the thread but look for a thread called "AMD teasing new product, is it Radeon or FirePro?" in the graphics card section on OCUK.

Kind of makes you wonder why they bothered with releasing the R9 285 in the 1st place, doesn't it? Particularly with Nvidia having the GTX 900 series ready to go; I'm sure AMD are far more aware of what Nvidia are doing than anyone of us here are.

They could have held it back and released it as the R9 370X or something. On the flip side though, something from the R9 300 series would be something to look forward.

Either way, not long now, we'll find out tomorrow. :p

I wondered why they bothered with it as well, it isn't like they needed to release the 285 or even a 285X.
They definitely had the 285X planned though because as d1974 posted above there was a update for MSI AB which included support for it. I think there was also a mobility AMD driver which added support for the 285Xm, could be wrong on that but i'm sure I remember reading something about it.

R9 295X Hawaii XTX ;)

AMD Roy being all sneaky as per usual. Twitter

EDIT: The eagle eyed amongst us might notice a slight "Tri-SLI" issue in the twitter link

It could be something really exciting. Like, I dunno... a piledriver CPU that's 100mhz quicker than the 9590 and comes with peltier cooling to stop it setting your house alight.

I guess we'll find out today at some point, it's looking more like a new Firepro card given the marketing hype.. but with team red it could be anything.

WTF was up with this tweet then? If an India launch of the R9 285 is all it is, doesn't make sense to me.

Oh well... it's not as if I was going to be buying a new graphics card anytime soon. :p

To be fair there is nothing in there to say they are bringing anything out, just fighting talk.

Why though? Surely it makes sense to wait for both companies to have their cards out anyway ;D

If I wait for AMD to get their act together i'll be waiting a good 3-6 months. I'm in the market to get a new graphics card at the beginning of October :)
