Now I can definitely get behind this. Would make NAS RAID setups even faster for some very good multi use access setups (ex. streaming content to multiple people local and remote).

I am curious what connection type they will turn too. U.2 allows for over 3000MB/s iirc but is server based and for 2.5" drives. Nvme is possible but it would still need a new connection since going to straight pci isn't feasible.
