Weird Problem

So today i was playing bad company 2 and the screen went black in mid-game, then an error popped and it said the driver had crashed a recovered, then it didn't let me either go into windows or into the game again so the screen kept flashing grey and black, then the bsod came up and it shut down (for the record temps were under control as i monitor them from my logitech g510 screen, the 580 was in mid 60's and cpu in mid 60's too). Then when i tried to reboot the monitor would just show "no signal" no bios no post nothing! i tried unplugging it from the wall and let it cool for a couple of minutes and tried again but nothing, then i reseated my graphic card and instantly booted like nothing ever happened, except for the safe mode thingy. Now i ask you, what could have caused the problem? cause i don't like having a 500 euro graphic card going nuts from time to time.

Hi there,

Well graphics cards, especially the heavier ones, can sometimes work their way loose. Often the first step when getting such issues can be to double check that everything is firmly seated. These things DO get hot and of course things expand slightly when hot. A few expand / contract cycles might be enough for it to get a little loose on your board.

I was rebuilding an old PC fairly recently and the old AGP GPU had worked loose somehow, even though it appeared nicely seated.

Keep an eye on things, if it happens again and the same action fixes it I think you have the culprit. Hopefully it's nothing more serious than that.

Best of luck.

First of all thanks for your reply, can you explain to me what a culprit is? i'm not english, it's my second language but neither in the classroom nor in the computing world i never heard that word, sorry

Culprit

1. a person or other agent guilty of or responsible for an offense or fault. 2. a person arraigned for an offense.

while not an actual person in this scenario basically he's saying reason it happened

Thanks for stepping in there S_I_N - fancy someone expecting me to know the meaning of the words I use...

Hope my post was useful 3p1cManiaC.

That G510 is so handy for monitoring temperatures and load

Yes it is, i constantly monitor my cpu and gpu temps memory load and cpu load and while playing bfbc2 i randomly switch my apps to check the temps as it has its own app for kills deaths ratio etc.

Hi,

I have a 2nd monitor so I pop that on & drag all the monitoring windows over to that during play so I can keep an eye on things. Usually do that while testing overclocks or a new particularly demanding game for example. Damn useful.

Yes, Why? is it causing the problem?

YUP! Realtek audio drivers in BFBC2 crash the video driver quite frequently. There are monstrous posts on the BFBC2 forum about it, also Realtek Ethernet drivers do the same thing. There is no fix for it, you have to get a sound card, preferably nothing using Realtek drivers. Creative Drivers are also know to crash BFBC2.
