Weird Asus mobo glitch?

Just thought some of you guys might like to know... Was building my PC on an Asus P8P67 Pro with some Mushkin Redline Ridgeback PC317000 RAM (2x4GB @ 2133MHz) and it just wouldn't post on it's first ever run. Using the mobo's nice LED's for showing up faulty components, it showed a RAM problem. I tried to get it to post using the MemOK! function which automatically selects a bootable speed and timings for the RAM, but it did not work.

In the end I found that my motherboard would not support this memory in 4GB or 8GB for initial startup, even when running at the stock (not XMP) profile of 1333MHz... Bit weird eh?

In the end I got past post by (luckily) ripping a stick of 1GB DDR3 from my other computer... After post I put the other sticks in and everything works fine.

Just a bit weird... thought I might share! Asus says the RAM is fully supported and it blatantly isn't.

Could it have been the BIOS expecting the old memory? I've had something similar with my Gigabyte board when I've changed timings, and it's just hung before posting.

Quickest way around it is to reset CMOS in my experience. Probably worth a go if you have problems again.

Hi Lexxikonn,

Did you only get Mem led lighting up? I also have a P8P67 with post problems.

Mine will freeze on mem half the time and on 1 of the other 3 post lights the rest of the time.

Also tried like you have with other ram.

1gb Ecc

1gb non ecc

4gb 1333 corsair.

8gb mushkin blackline.

Used mem ok and has latest bios.

I've got a RMA number for mine but wondered what your post lights were doing?

Cheers
