Watch AMD's Vega livestream here

That Scottish guy from YouTube suggested Vega might not be out until May. But waiting until May is surely not a good idea if they have functional silicon now. That's five more months of potential costumers giving in and going for a 1070 or 1080 instead. Also, if they do have working silicon that is "very, very competitive", why wait until May? Unless they know they need to squeeze more out of it, get that sucker out.

I think overall Vega will be a staggered release, which I don't like. I'd rather we had the major contenders out at once (like the Fury line) so that people know what it is they want to purchase from the stack, at least at the high-end. Then the midrange stuff that's supposedly replacing Polaris will come later. I still don't buy into that rumour, but we'll see.

There's a giveaway on the ve.ga site and it closes in 30 days.

So it's not going to be released before February, but I also think that Vega chips are going to hit the shelves by April, otherwise that giveaway should have lasted a bit longer

That's gonna be way too late IMHO :(

Do you have a link for the giveaway? I went over there but couldn't find it.

The giveaway is here, but you have to answer some questions correctly first though you have unlimited attempts from what I can tell.

The answers are as follows:
A Star
Closed Eye
On the Stairs

Well IMO if AMD can't release this bye the end of February they have lost yet again.

Cause if AMD keep dragging their feet and keep putting the date later & later a lot people will just say F it i'm buying something else cause they can't wait to me that's fair enough and AMD only have themselves to blame i all of this bye taking their sweet time.

Cheers for that! I'm seemingly stuck on 3/6 because I don't do social media so not sure if I entered or not, it's rather vague that site.

As has been said if AMD dont release this card nice and early and they just hype train it then they will effectively be cutting their own throats and will probably finish them which will be a real shame but they'd have no one to blame but themselves and whomever the CEO is they need to be fired

It'll be Q2. Confirmed earlier today.
Pretty sure Ryzen was also confirmed for no launch in Jan... but that was it.

If you think the CEO needs to be fired, sorry but you are very very misinformed. Could not be more wrong there.

The AMD CEO is Lisa T. Su, As i have said this is all AMD's not Nvidia fault but i'm sure there will be some people around blaming Nvidia over this where it's AMD talked about this "New Gen" stuff about 18 months ago. It's AMD fault if they can't come out with it earlier compare to Intel & Nvidia who can.

AMD have shot themselves so many times in the foot it has turn into Swiss Cheese...lol:

April June July IS TOO LATE! AMD fans and others have money burning holes in their pockets waiting to buy a new card and so many people are now going to say up yours AMD and just buy an Nvidia card as they wont want to wait that long for a supposed 1080 killer my statement still stands the CEO should be fired these needed to come out Q1

I agree with this

Q2 is too long to wait this GPU should have been release bye now or now, A lot of people aren't going to wait people have the money now so they will just end up buying Nvidia.

To me it seems like the higher ups at AMD don't seem to understand that this GPU needed to be out now, not in Q2 but they must think it's fine to have it keep dragging out for as long as they want, Well AMD share price may end up crashing again.

Same again looks like Nvidia is going to win this round.

By June July Nvidia will be getting ready for the next gen of GPU, and if people have waited that long they are lightly to wait for what nvidia do about vega if it's better than a 1080, so AMD will either way be to late.

IMO i think AMD is too late now.

From what i have heard is Nvidia is already working on GPU's that are 5 Gens in front to what where have now.

IMO AMD should had Vega GPU ready to go at last years Computex what did they do only talked about it, Same applies to the CPU they should have been ready at last years Computex as well.

I have a X99 rig in a Thermaltake Core P5 with damn 780 sli WAITING for a AMD vega card.... but I dont think I can wait SO long.... might as well buy a used 1080 or a 1070 from a friend.

I have the Fury X in a itx rig with a.custom loop, and I did not want to give Nvida my money this time around.....

It seems that by the time AMD launches their cards then I might just sell what card I buy now and get the 1080ti. I am tired of waiting so long for AMD... its a shame.

Way too late from my perspective, nearly a year later since the 10xx series....

I think that best case scenario it's on par with the 1070/1080 and Nvidia will release its Ti shortly after Vega, finishing this round. Then Volta will come peeking what, 2017/2018? And AMD will have nothing for close to another year, unfortunately. Having a third, strong competitor would be ideal. The same for CPUs: AMD isn't releasing (fast) enough whereas Intel is releasing too many too often imo.

And the thing with that is Intel have just been tweaking what they have out, chances are they have a CPU ready to go that will put AMD back behind them a few years, Nvidia will do the same. I'm looking at my system and thinking a 6600k or 7600k upgrade would only cost around £600 and considering how long my 2500k has lasted for gaming I'd not be looking for a good 4 years to upgrade

Oh yes I'm sure both Intel and Nvidia have a few ideas for exactly that purpose.

Such an upgrade is what I did last year, albeit out of necessity, and I'm not looking to upgrade until 2020 (except the GPU obviously).

Yeah, I thought that as well when I entered the competition yesterday.

If it is May, I think they will miss the boat it will of sailed and be on the return journey, I think people were expecting it now and possibly have money put by for it, and by may Nvidia will have the next 1080 upgrade in the rumour mill

Depends on how it performs and how many GPU's are to be launched. If Vega is going to offer a whole array of various performers, from 1080ti beating to RX 470 replacing, they can take their time and get it right. It is a whole new architecture after all. Different sources are rumouring 1080ti beaters, and Nvidia didn't announce the 1080ti when everyone was expecting them to. This suggests that Nvidia are waiting to see how powerful Vega really is before settling on the specifications of the 1080ti—and also as a point of reference for Volta.

I think AMD are on the right track, though I am still concerned. The argument that all the potential costumers will have given in and gone with a 1080 is telling for a number of reasons. It's understandable, but it suggests what kind of economic climate we live in and how impatient and pessimistic we are as a people. I personally don't mind that much waiting for Vega, but not if the performance is only on par with a 1070 or 1080; that would be frustrating. Performance needs to be "very, very competitive". Otherwise the wait will not have been worth it.

Or NVIDIA won't be releasing a 1080Ti and it's all been a huge red herring, lets face it they don't need to release a Ti variant of the 1080. All this could just be a ploy to see what AMD would do with the VEGA announcement..

April, MAY, June. Big difference.
And no she doesn't. But I won't argue that. Doesn't seem to be a point to
