WARNING Frag stay away from this thread..

I need all of ur advise(especially urs Frag, lol), I am building a new comp. Likes Frags post I am torn about which GPU. I sold ALL my video cards so I have none now.

So far I have a Biostar Tforce 965 mobo with a C2D 6300 and 2 gigs of Corsair XMS2 with LEDs.

Up to Xmas I was using a 15" lCD (1024X768). For the contest I may buy a 19 or 20" Wide Screen LCD (1680X1050)

The mobo I chose has only 1 slot for a video card (no SLI)

I wont be using Vista or any DX10 games for at Least a year.

I have been looking at the HIS X1950XT (I really like HIS stuff and I can get it for $250)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161048

If I use a 8800GTX I need to make the case wider

Money is a issue to me, BUT so is the COOL factor:cool: ..

I say get the x1950, if you're not going to be moving up for a year or two, then by the time you do ant DX10, it'll be much cheaper.

Also, I can run most games so far on high settings with a 7600 GT @ 1680x1050.

is the 8800gts in ur budget? i would say either that or the x1950, oh soot its the xt, i voted for the rong 1, i say 1950xt

1900gt - dirt cheap and has been able to run all my games flatout - but i spose you have more $ to spend than me, if not that go for the "Get the HIS1950XT cause its plenty for your resolutions"

Ya I`m in the same boat atm, I haven`t run into any problems, apart from the games I`ve complained about the programming on. - that`s another topic tho.

With an AMD 3800x2, it`s reaching just above 3400 in 3dmark06.

I`m reckoning with u`r c2d in it`s place, u`d gotta be scoring 4000-5000 or so at a guess.

Kemp rocks in at 11k I think with a step up in processor and the 8800, just to give u a comparison in expectations.

Soooo.. I`d hazard a guess that if u went 8800gts, u`d score ~6500/7000, and prob ~7000/8000 with a gtx, loosely.

IF some1 can show an example of what the ATI (spits) card do as a reference with his setup ?

Agreed, and even if it is bottlenecked by the CPU (which I read is an E6300, if OC'ed wont be a bottleneck), it won't be bottlenecked by future, more powerful CPU's.

If you really don't plan on Vista or DX10, grab yourself a 7600GT for now and do a real upgrade later, it will do everything you need easily.

That'll probaably be better than a 1950 right now, then you can upgrade later with minimal loss.

well I had a XFX7950GT Extreme and my 7600GTs (in SLI)beat it up in 3Dmark05.

The thing is my mobo isant SLI (2 7600GTs are $160 now) And it may sound dumb but looks matter as I really want to do well at the LAN Mod contest so 1 7600 is definately out of the question.

The HIS iceQ3 cards come with the killer AC heattube cooler (almost silent) and better memory for good OCs.

I know the 8800GTS rules in coolness but because of my resolutions I will never use its full potential (not to mention the other new cards that will be coming out in the next few mos)

I guess the real question is if you were voting on a comp would it matter to you what the Video card was?

i agree with whoever said X1900GT. Simply cos they cheap as hell for the performance. And put the other $ aside for when G80s drop in price/R600.

As long as it isn't totally crappy nope.

As long as the computer looks wicked cool :D
