VRM components may overheat and fail on EVGA GTX 1070 or 1080 GPUs with ACX coolers

And that 3-4% shouldn't be mad about it? Because it's only a tiny sample? No. They have every right. Spending that much money and having cards catch on fire and possibly ruining other hardware is ridiculous no mature amount of people affected. And yes this did happen. It's on there forums after all.

/sigh

It's covered by warranty, If you are one of the unlucky 3-4% you get a pre-paid label from EVGA, Send your card in and there, All done.

The amount of aggro and all out bile over this topic is getting a little silly.

sigh as well

I think it comes down to just being EVGA there's a lot of people on this forum who don't like EVGA.

I still think if it was other companies like ASUS or MSI who did this people would give them a pass, As i have said if it was other companies like ASUS or MSI they would bury their heads in the sand and hope it goes away.

Why are you so defensive? I'm talking about it affecting other hardware. If it destroyed say a motherboard, I sure as heck expect EVGA to reimburse me for that.

You're making this a bigger deal tbh. You didn't have an affected card, those that did are going to have a majority of angry people. Idk why that's difficult to get. Talk about warranty and there customer service yadadada, doesn't change anything, so why defend it?

The 3 - 4% equates to the affected chips on the card and not just the card itself. So if it had only 1 chip per card then 3 - 4% would equal the affected end user.
I do agree, the many puerile comments on evga's forum from all camps has left a bitter taste for me and many others I'm sure.
I personally wouldn't buy one of their affected cards right now until it was totally resolved, who would?
They also haven't the luxury of hindsight so all they can do is do their best (and I believe they are) to put things right.

I'm not dude you are simply doing you're usual "Gotta have the last word and everyone must agree with me!!!!" thing :p *Jokes*

Stating the obvious is not defending them and if something gets affected in your system then I'm sure warranty would cover it and going on and on and on about isn't going to solve the problem :)

Your opinion is not obvious, that's your opinion not a fact? Ang being "sure" it'll be covered by warranty doesn't mean it is, they could easily say No, but being EVGA I would like to think not.
You could say this about anyone then in any argument. You replied to me, I replied back. If you stop then say that, then yes it would be true. If I did it before you did, then it would be true too. You say this then continue on with what the topic is about. That's exactly what you are claiming im doing? Debate's have a time limit for a reason, because they can continue on forever. So why even bother bringing an off topic thing up? We were having a normal discussion?

Any 1070/1080 with an ACX cooler still needs the new BIOS or better still the thermal pads, otherwise the cards which have been tested using 3DMark Firestrike on the Guru3D forums at temperature of 96°C, even higher with Furmark tested on Toms Hardware - Germany. The maximum operating spec of the Micron memory is 95°C, not checked out the Samsung memory.

All in all there's been 3 issues.

1. Micron memory issue, already fixed with a bios update for all 1070/1080 manufacturer cards.

2. Faulty batch of VRM's, fixed for EVGA 1080 FTW's manufactured with a shipping date of the first week of September or better. Check by inserting serial number on the EVGA guest rma area of their website.

3. Overheating VRM's in general, as posted on various websites such as Guru3D, Toms Hardware - Germany - fix is the thermal pads and a new bios if you want it even cooler at the expense of higher fan rpm/noise. Other brand cards VRM's run much cooler.

The thing is EVGA rarely slip up, so this is going to be a bigger deal then if it was your typical, somewhat lazy, manufacturer.
Infact it would be a whole lot worse for almost ANYONE else because EVGA have had their stuff together when it comes to RMA since the dawn of time. People know that if it goes wrong they're covered.

3-4% is a tiny number, Same could be said of Asus though, The amount of monitors they've sent out that have been faulty is huge.
It'll be around the same failure rate if you do it overall. I'm sure certain models of monitor have higher rates than others however.
