Vista SP2 Beta This Coming Week

wasn't SP1 released about 6 months ago?

seems microsoft is rushing instead of putting any respectable quality into things again

They said before the release of vista that the life cycle of os's would be shortened. i guess they have to move these things along a bit quicker now.

Hey, so long as it`s free ... and doesn`t bork anything :D

Only gripe this end, you have a non-SP1 version of whichever Vista. Why do we have to go thru the rigmarole of updating every SP and patch available before we can proceed with the latest service pack??

Registries, by comparison of the OS byte size is tiny. Can the update program not be featured to scan/process the registry to determine exactly what is required and provide the SP accordingly?

It`s kinda like a game patch ... install v1.1 before u install v1.2 before u install .... boils me yella water! Mek sense? :)

That`s a bold statement.

I tend to find the OS stability, whichever OS, is down to installation method and condition of applied drivers (hardware).

I havent had any BSOD with Vista until i upgraded my rig. I just wish some of the stupid quirks of Vista where fixed but i can deal with them.

This has Vista written all over it.. not enough time spent actually fixing it and as Rast said "recycle of old code". Vista is a failure and nobody can see it all MS has done is slow the XP kernel down with more crap and then add a new shell which makes all the n00b scream "Ooooo Purdy".. Anyone say Vista is for women? :D

With Windows 7 months away Vista will be forgotten in seconds.

Yeah, the quicker u can recycle the same ole ageing code, to atleast look different, the more times u can sell it.

Agreed, you really hit the nail on the head there. That's all Windows has been for years now.

I have a good few friends that'd scratch your eyes out for that. :p

But at least XP, 2000 and 98 had some seriously good reasons to use them.. Whereas Vista is just (Shall I say it again?) the new ME.

Except it has DX10 and XP dosent ;)

Also, Windows 7 is just rehashed kernel as well so i dont see why everybody is so goo goo over it. It will be the new.....Vista?

DX10 was just a marketing tool. It has hardly any use in the real gaming world as 95% of people cannot actually run it while keeping a good frame rate and not a single game has come out which is "full" DirectX 10.

What I mean by "full" is a game which cannot be hacked to work in DX10 mode in XP. Crysis = Hacked, Halo 2 needed DX10 but then people realised it was only DX9.

Vista is a useless OS as XP can do all the things it can quicker and if Microsoft think the gaps between OSs are getting smaller they will be the ones to lose out as businesses will not be able to keep up with the change. My Dad runs this company and they have yet/will not update to Vista as they have no use for it. Slows the PCs down and filled with incompatibilities what for? A new look? Wooppeee.

We all know Microsoft gets a huge percentage from businesses so they cannot work like this.

Vista is just a stepping stone between XP and 7. Though we don't know if 7 will be any decent yet.. fingers crossed.

Meh... I'm sick of Windows in general.

I'm on Ubuntu and loving it. More stable, secure, it's a better multitasker and actually does the hardware justice (To name just a few advantages). I'm not going back to Windows (no matter what version) any time soon.. :p

The only time I boot into Windows (and XP is my choice there) is for games, home recording applications, and engineering applications..

Windows 15 will be out, and I'll say I'll still be using XP whenever I need to. :p

One thing u should recognize is that, particularly larger businesses, don`t simply install XP as u would at home.

What u tend to get is a version of XP, that looks kinda like NT in it`s structure, with limited hotfixes applied to them. @ home u may be on XPSP3, in work we have something like XPSP1.97. There is alot of security stripping, app testing, by quite a fair sized department, who`s job it is to be sure patches and upd8s aren`t applied that may disable a huge amount of existing installed software.

Under agreed license terms, by/through siemens or whoever, the install is then imaged as a standard.

Only reason i use Vista is for DX10 in Crysis. I would have XP otherwise.

Roll on Windows 7 starting from base kernal wins over Vistas build on xp kernal and make one slow OS. Epic FAIL comes to mind.
