vista rc2 (5744)

After reading bout it decided to download rc1 today 14mb downloaded :(

I agree stocky be less of a jump when everything is switched to vista relatively soon.

Has anyone here tried the 64bit version of vista?

I'm going back to XP now 8)

Vista RC2 only lasts 18days, and I have played and learnt what I need to. I would have left it on longer, but it doesn't support some of my specialist applications as well as my Creative Audigy NX2 (but I think that's more Creative's fault!)

Goodbye Vista... until sometime next year! :p

What are other folks experience/ views of it so far?

Thats wot I assumed, bit like xp64 with lack of support.

300mb downloaded now.

Its a 3gb file isnt it?

The expiry for vista RC2 is April 2007, I find it is not as fast as XP but this is still a beta version so there are still things to be sorted before it will be available to the public, I have tried the 64 bit version as well and this is not up to much at the moment as there are not enough drivers available to support the 64bit O/S.

But on the whole Vista RC2 is not a bad O/S, I would have expected more features and other things in this O/S but I think we will all see the power of it when DX10 hardware is readily available.

Is it very different to xp to use?

I like the look of it and the layout more than xp from wot ive seen of the screenshots. Will they lock out the beta versions of vista when its released so you have to buy the full version or will you be able to get away with using rc1/2?

I have RC2 and its almost retail, infact it will be going to large organisations next month and retail in Jan, or so ive been reliably told, its very very nice, although the rumours of 15-20% slower gaming performance is a little worrying if its true

Did you get your Key code from microsoft and activate it?

I was using a robbed/ shared keycode - I didn't have my own one :(

(I didn't try activating as I assumed it is one key for each user??)

Yes it is but it can be used on 10 PC's, just follow the link bazx posted about getting a Key Code for vista and microsoft will send you one, and vista will be avlid until May 2007, also Nvidia has just brought out new drivers for RC2 and Creative has aswell, so a few bugs have been ironed out.

Creative don't support this product anymore and have no intention on bringing out drivers on Vista for it :(

It's the external USB soundcard which in my opinion is the best hardware on the market. (7.1 surround & Audigy 2 features) with the ability to use a longer USB cable and run it close to your amplifier setup thus reducing analog wire lengths and having a better quality final output.

The software was never really up to scratch. It would be an amazing product if they re-released the software. It does make me wonder why not??

This means I'll have to figure out another way to run my sounds when Vista does finally become mainstream :(
