Vista problems...

where to begin

right, well, first of all, i do actually like windows vista, when it works

but i have noumerous problems, if people can solve them i'd be greatful :)

1. the bar, at the right, on the desktop, with the gadgets in it, great, but when i have certain (non-microsoft) ones enabled, it just uses upto 300mb of ram, and makes my system as a whole unstable, so i had to disable them, is there any way i could re-enable them, and have them not use asmuch ram?

2. if i leave my laptop on for more than 24 hours, wether i'm doing the most demanding things, or its just idling, after around 24 hours +/- it seems to just go slugish, and the only way to fix this is with a reboot, when i had vista installed on a pc before, it did the same, but the time got shorter and shorter, until eventually, after 3 minutes of it being on, it just died, and rebooted itself...., i dont want this to happen again, but i dont know what causes it

3. explorer.exe ....this keeps screwing up badly, what it does, is it ignores the start menu button, and moves my quick icons, and windows further left, then screwing that up, and then if i click the windows button logo on the keyboard, it moves them back right again, until i close the start menu, where it screws it up

but when i put the mouse on the taskbar, if i click on where a window is, it will actually click to the right, where it should be, but isnt, this really doesnt make sense, and i dont like it

4. wireless, somtimes the wireless connects, somtimes it doesnt...when it does connect somtimes, it connects to the internet, and i can use firefox fine, but my windows live messenger doesnt connect, and gives an error code, that when i look up, means your wireless signal is not strong enough to connect to the internet for msn to use, or your internet is too slow or somthing

5. changing the priority of windows media player to high, is the only way to get it to work when i have 3 + windows open, and this is crazy, and makes no sense, it needs somthing done about it i think, but what, i do not know

6. when i transfer a huge number of files, either from one destination or another on a hard drive, or across a network, it takes what seems like years, but atleast several hours, and it never did with xp, i dunno whats wrong with that

7. somtimes my internet is slow, or just doesnt work, for no aparant reason, because it works fine on my pc, which is xp coincidently

other than the above faults, i really quite like vista, the ability to control the volumes of individual programs, the search bit on the start menu, the side bar, the ability to have extra large icons is great for pictures, the 3d thing is pretty cool, but.. i dont really use it

before you sugest i go back to xp, i cant, xp was installed on my laptop, and they didnt give me a disk with it, and i dont have any other disks, so i cannot revert back, ....i wish i could tbh...

idk what to do, ...i keep all the updates going, and install them as soon as it says i should

i keep it clear of spyware/adware, with spybot search and destroy

and i keep my registry clean with C-cleaner, it also clears out my temp files and cache and other crap

so i dont know what is causing all these problems

and wow, this is a long post :D

EDIT: (since it wont let me edit the post, i hope i can be forgiven for double posting :D)

8. when one program decides to not respond, and it fades out into white, any other programs i try and use at the same time do the same, i have to minimise everything, wait about 5 - 20 seconds, then open them all again, and they work, but after that, on that reboot, they will keep not responding, intermitently, which is also really anoying

why couldnt microsoft just start a new OS from the ground up, rather than taking XP, rejiging it about a bit, adding in some weird, but slightly cool features, and then wrapping it up in xmas lights, and feeding it 10,000 pies, and selling it as somthing new

i still wanna know if anyone else knows how to fix any of this stuff

if there's any patches out, that dont automatically get downloaded that could do it...

or........somthing....

what are the specs of your machine?

#6 there are some fixes available for this. you'll have to have a google mind you.

On a side note, i didnt have any of the above problems on mine. It was a P4 2.8 (northwood) 1gb of ram. It ran really well even on that crappy hardware.

Same, on the weekend I switched to Vista tro give it another try. What a waste of time that was.

Vista is nothing but a system hog. Nothing remotely new or useful has been added.

Just a pretty GUI. Which means nothing to be because I am for game performance so change everything to classic anywhoo.

Waste of time waste of money and waste of my valuable RAM. :nono:

I wouldnt blame vista as much as you do. 3rd parties need more blaming! I had vista running nicely using 500mb of ram, now i wouldnt say that was resource hogging, would you?
