Vista Overpriced in England.

Nearly 6,000 people have put their names to an online petition to the Prime Minister urging him to put pressure on Microsoft to cut the price of its latest operating system Windows Vista.

'I can see no reason for there to be such a huge difference in prices between the UK and the US other than Microsoft's belief that the UK customers will pay more than their US counterparts,' said Milne to petitions creator.

Vista Ultimate:-

UK = £350

US = £195

Signed. I think its pathetic and can't really think of any excuse why there should be such a MASSIVE difference in price.
 
If this doesnt work, ill be importing from USA when the time comes :rolleyes: The uk economy will suffer as im sure many will do this.
 
Here`s the theoretical timescale of things:

  • Launch, priced as high as they think they can get away with it
  • Initial sales are undertaken of those who simply can`t wait to get it
  • Grumblings procede about the pricing
  • ... a period goes by as sales continue at the current price, peer pressure etc
  • More and more mentions of the price still being high, forums, blogs, maybe even a news feature on tv
  • Good ole microsoft bring the price down, and retailers follow suit (retailers nominally only make 10-15% on these things anyway)
  • Every1 continues to believe m$ listens to the people and are a great company.

In a year or so the price will be viewed by most as "reasonable seeing as it`s inherently a vital 1 time purchase of an OS for u`r pc, the backbone requirement."

Sheesh they make their monies.

EDIT: What the eff do they think Tony Blair`s gonna do about the pricing ?

That`s what I mean by "priced at a level they think they can get away with".

I know it`s a vital piece of kit, an OS, but how in the hell can u sanction it being about half the price of a decent pc itself ? (in the US almost a whole pc!)

£350? goto Scan or similar and see what kit u could purchase.

Ya it`s a flawed arguement as they`re different items, and freakin-A I know some1`s gonna defend them in a moment or 2.
 
It is overpriced, they should have a plant in Europe, h/e this is how the process goes. Most retailers in the UK/Europe/anywhere other than US buy from wholesalers from the US, b/c its cheaper than buying and being taxed more from MS itself b/c its international. You still got shipping, and then customs tax, then they sell it to you to make a profit they increase price and then you are taxed on it also.

In the modern day of fast internet connections etc you'd think that things like Windows & Office would be downloadable from MS or a regional distributor.

Would work out much better if a company like SpecialTech could buy 100 digital licenses of Vista from MS and then when a customer purchases one, they get sent the license key via email and a link to download the ISO from.

this is already in place, but it's only avaible on VLK at the moment. I do think think it's a rip off and is very unfair.

But you have to ask yourself if it's microsoft putting the price up or somewhere else down the line. e.g tax etc. As with most things in the UK e.g petrol it's a complete ripoff. If it is microsoft, what the hell is tony blair going to do? i can see it now, he give's into this partition and does something to make microsoft lower the price. Next people will be on about house price's, tax's, petrol... Where does it stop? will it be a ecomany meltdown? So for the previous reason i dont think he'll do anything.

It's because of the economic differences of the US and the UK. And there's a little bit extra on top that's towards the EU fees MS has to pay.

When you single handedly come up with a solution let us know. I know it wont have any influence but that didn't stop me from taking 20 seconds to sign it.
