I have two pcs in our house which are connected to the internet.
WINXP +SP3
Phenom 2 x4 Black edition 3.0ghz
4gig ddr2 ram
8800gs 384 meg
500gig internal drive
580watt psu
This is my pc, it is less than a week old and i built it myself, it runs fine and downloads torrents sometimes at 2.5mbps (NICE)
The other however which is about 3 months older but still not old by any means.
The specs for this one are as follows.
Windows Vista home Premium (genuine)
Amd Phenom x3 8650 2.3ghz (triple core)
3 gig ddr2 ram
gt 120 512meg
640gig Hdd
(not too sure on the power supply but it was bought as a complete pc so it should be enough to run this)
This pc is right next to the modem and router and is the one which i have a problem with.
The problem is basically everytime i try to download torrents of any kind using the second pc (the vista one) it disconnects from the internet and it starts acting all sluggish and wierd, the mouse pointer will lag and all programs no matter how large or small will all become very slow, resulting in whomever is using it at the time having to switch off and sometimes reboot the router too.
This only ever happens on this vista machine and it only ever happens when using torrents.
The client i use for torrents is utorrent on both machines, however i have tested with bitcomet and azureus too.
All the same results, I am thinking it may be something to do with the amount of half open connections or something which vista allows, (sorry if i got that wrong ive forgotten the terminology)
Oh and last but not least our connection is a 20Mb/s cable line which on the xp machine and usually on the vista machine runs flawlessly and NEVER disconnects from the internet, only when the vista one uses torrents.
The modem is a standard scientific atlanta modem which the cable company gave us and the router is a belkin wired router (oh yea none of our pcs are wireless) Just like to point out that the Belkin is only a few months old itself.
I hope ive remembered everything, if theres something else you would need to know then please let me know.

DOWNLOAD 20.1Mb/s
UPLOAD 0.62Mb/s
Ping 25ms
