Video Demo of I-Ram

wow that is fast, wish i could afford one...Have a trip to the states next week, may try to pick one up...

I love it - however the better option will be the one that runs of SATA only and fits in the 51/4 drive bay - else I aint gonna have room for my SLI, Audigy 2 Zx and Physix and I-Ram on me mobo.

Great demo of how fast it reallly though - good find.

Thats brilliant :D although do I really need it? limited space, very expensive (compared to HDD) and what do I really gain? It looks like a bit of a gimmick in its current form IMO of course.

Justin you could have bought Kennys when he was selling it.

Is there a SATA one or will there be one?

Can you overclock it or does it not need it?

What type of ram is needed?

Oh and this is just to run your OS on only and then all programs and what not off the HD's?

Just a quick question about storage time. It says 15hours battery backup life. Does this mean that if you simply shut the machine down, the data (eg. your OS) will only last 15 hours and you will have to re-install. Or does it mean 15 hours if there is no Power (eg power-cut)?

the reason I ask is that occassionally my machine is shut down for more than 15 hours, and I don't want to have to re-install windows each time lol.

Cheerz.

yeh i could have...didnt really want it then though, and was short on cashina. Im not sure what ill buy in the states, but i can probs bring stuff back for people?

The 15 hours is the battery life after shutdown - the newer models will have an improved power solution AFAIK.

You dont overclock hard drives so you should not expect to overclock this product either, one would have thought it was fast enough :)

Dont show me this i've just been paid:p

Very impressive i know Kenny had it and caused him a few problems setting up

Heh...just for once i`m in the special position of being the only one to have used it so heres what I found:

Using Partition magic would have been a lot easier to use to get it going- the person I sold it to went straight to that and had no hassle. I didnt have it, so couldnt say if it would be better for setup.

The I-RAM uses a S-ATA interface. the I-RAM2 will be SATA2 and will not fit into a PCI port- it`ll be a drive-bay card.

it uses normal DDR1 (I-RAM) or DDR2 (I-RAM2) sticks. timings and voltages are not part of the equation. DDR2100 would saturate I-RAM, so chances are DDR2 4200 will be more than enough for I-RAM2

15 hours is the MAXIMUM storage time- battery life depends on the memory sticks used and the amount of memory to refresh. Chances are Gigabyte used the best case for monimum memory when advertising the battery lifetime coz for me, the battery didnt last anywhere near 15 hours.

Dont worry too much about reinstalling every time- Windows installed onto mine in 3 1/2 minutes :)

i agree with kenny battery life is a jk i am looking for a way of powering it from a mini psu i have

In theory, 2 can be run together in RAID, yes, but between the heat output and the fact that a single card hits data transfer of 140MB/S, its not worth it. Dont need fancy memory, and PC3200 sticks will do. PC2100 would be enough, but ya may as well buy something with some resale value.

Windows and all your software? on 8GB of space? (more than 4GB per card is not officially supported, and battery life will be lower)

RAM amount up, battery life down. its bad enough with 4GB

Cool.

So could two of these be run toghter tus creating Raid 0?

I'd really like to get one but google aint showing any shops only reviews bloody thing

Oh and do i need uber fancy memory or not?

I find it hard to believe that you will get one of these, and why would you want a RAID array?

If you are serious about getting one - PM Bazx see if he wants to sell his

Mav, shut up please. If this is some kinda personal dig at me over your mach that i was ment to be buying when i never ever ever ever even uttered them words grow up. I asked about it and for pics, nothing there says i want it, unlike all the contact i had off all advising me differntly about getting it. Oh and if it's possibly to tally in with AXERs pump thats his issue and twisting of my words which has had me banned off the classifieds here. Onyl reason i'm here is my inbox got full of requests asking em not to sink to some members levels.

I shall PM Bazx tomomorw when at work as i'm too tired now but for ref he'll get a pm and if ican i shall cc to you and axer, perhaps the whole forum

I've bought a lot off here so only one thing that didn't happen and go through for good reason and intent i'm banned. Umm odd one and the OCUK boy's are silly are they

Now rant over i think we can go back to the topic

If it can be in raid was the question i only asked, ie@ trying to find more info from the hourse mouth being K404 who has had one etc etc, not that i would want top but wetyhe rit can be done and the benifit

Why i want one, be cool, faster system, show off a bit more with my new rig and all and the fact i'm going to be trying out UNIX/Linx which will laod dam fast on this etc etc
