Looks like the CPU game is no longer a two horse race! Do AMD and Intel need to watch out?

It doesn't just beat the Atom, it spanks it good and proper.. I think if they did decided to create a high end enthusiast type chip it'll be a real game changer for Intel & AMD. Please let it happen.

I alwals like(d) VIA cpus. I still had one in my vardrobe. It was a VIA C3 733MHz
cpu and it was runing with 2GB-of SD-133 RAM and Windows 7 32bit with a quite good speed. It was worked as an FTP home server. It was replaced last year with an AMD Brazzos E350. It was 9 years old... and it can still runing but it getting too slow for my needs...:D I hope VIA can come back with success on the low power segment. :)

Performance is one thing, but we need to know the TDP and more importantly the price. Kabini is pretty darn cheap, it will be it's main competition in its desired sectors.

As for a future for VIA in the mid-high end, they will need a lot of money and expertise to even try anything like that. I doubt they have any ambitions like that in at present.

Low end market is quite populated. Id like to see if VIA will bring out a performance chip. That will make me sit up and listen

I actually still have a motherboard with a Via chipset that's alive and kicking yet. Houses an old AMD Sempron. ^_^

More competition is always good, but don't expect Via to be bringing out something to challenge either the i7-4790k or FX-8350 anytime soon I'd say.

Wow VIA that's a blast from the past, my fist Pentium grade CPU was a VIA.

Cyrix 686 made by IBM back them before it was sold to VIA. They had a P-Rating because they ran a little slower than the Intel but had better clock performance. Mine was the 110MHz but was rated at 133MHz, I had mine overclocked to 133MHz so it was equal to a Intel running at 150MHz. Feel the power!!! I had a TNT 2 with 16Mb or RAM playing Tomb Raider 2 back in the day.

For a short while in the beginning of the 2000's VIA was a serious alternative, with the VIA CIII . I went AMD after that with K6II. Good times with everyone using the same socket, you could swap CPU vendor without changing your motherboard. Good old Socket 7 :)

You guys probably have your hopes up way to high for a performance chip. It takes a few years to design and prototype a few before mass production. They would have needed to start in the first few months of 2012 if we were to see any performance chip soon. I think it would be optimistic to see a chip that can compete with some i3's or higher end pentiums before we see any i5 or i7 competitors.

This, exactly right. Performance chips don't just come out of thin air, VIA will likely stay in the low end market, especially given the way portable tech is ATM.

Remember the Isaiah II is aimed at the same place as Kabini and Silvermont, neither of which are performance CPUs.
