Can a VGA cable support 1080p? I was always under the impression that it could not, but I feel as if I may be wrong....

It can yes, but most VGA ports dont support it.
On an old monitor I had, it was 1080p and only had 1 VGA port. My graphics card wouldnt give out 1080p through the vga port so I had a nightmare trying to actually get that resolution. DVI to vga adapter in the end worked but I needed a high quality one, again because of the port issue. I went through like 4 different adapters trying to find one that worked
