Various Graphics Problems - please help!

Hi,

I've recently been having a few problems with my 6970. For a start, in GPU-Z and AMD catalyst, the card registers as running at PCIE 2.0 X16 @ x4.
I don't know if this leads to the the other problems I'm having or not, but it's still just frustrating :p

Secondly, while playing games such as TF2 and DiRt 3 on triple screens, I get flickering lines across two of the three screens like this:

Although this displays worse in person.
Various things happen to this screen whilst gaming - such as moving lines and displaying red dots all over the screen.
This only happens to the display using the active display port adapter.

Also, occasionally, that display goes to 'input not supported' on the screen options itself and so turns off. This is then fixed by turning off the game or turning the monitor off and on.
The problems would indicate an issue with the display port adapter, but as they're expensive new (this was £70) I'd rather not have to replace it.

Specs:
3930k
P9X79 Pro
HIS 6970 IceQ
XFX650 PRO
16gb G-Skill Ripjaw
Various hard drives...

Help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Not by me personally no. I'm unsure if it came overclocked by the factory.

Nothing has been overclocked in the whole system by me.

GPU-z reports the core clock to 900Mhz, whilst google says the default clock speed is 800Mhz, so I'm guessing it came factory overclocked.

It's only happened recently, I rarely game, but when I used to play eyefinity DiRt 3 it was fine.

Now every game in 5760x1080 seems to glitch in some form or another.

I do agree that it's most likely hardware related as you're suggesting

recent drivers? HDMI cable defect, PSU output issues, GPU overheat...
just a couple that come to mind..

I have the most the recent drivers (just done a clean install), and I doubt that it's the cable (otherwise I would get the problem constantly , wouldn't I?), And the PSU would effect all the monitors wouldn't it and GPU overheat unlikely also as it happens on loading screens before it gets a chance to get hot.

Thanks for the help so far guys, I may yet find a solution :notworthy:

It's not a problem with the adapter or the HDMI cable, those are either working or not. It can either be a problem with the card or the drivers. Try using just two monitors for a couple of days, see if you notice the same problems. If you do, look for an older version of driver. If that doesn't fix it, the graphics memory is shot.

I knew someone who had a card overclocked from the factory. It artifacted in certain games. I got him to try underclocking it 25Mhz from the factory settings and the problems stopped. Dont know if that will help you but it might be worth a shot.

Thank you all very much, I'm sorry I cannot provide a better answer, but it's fixed I played a bit of TF2 on it and i didn't have a problem, not sure what i did but thanks all the same, however if i ever have another problem I will try with only the two monitors and also the underclocking.
Again thanks for all the help
