Hey Guys

I have ordered som Mayhems X1 UV green, and is now in search for som lights.

I know nothing about UV, so any suggestions? I have a aquareo 6 lt, and it has a led port, so would be nice to be able to control it from the aquasuite software.

Thanks.

Sorry, I can't answer this one myself, but I too am interested in this, so here's a quick bump!

Bitspower/EK etc do 3mm and 5mm UV led which you can use on the waterblocks. The blocks should have small holes for inserting these lights in.

There is also brands like lamptron who does UV SMD led strips.

My personal favourite however are cold cathode tubes. If you buy these, you might need an inverter to go with it. Cold cathode produce the nicest and warmest lighting of all in my opinion. It will provide a soft UV light spread through your case. Downside is that they are a little obtrusive and sometimes difficult to hide.

I wouldn't bother trying to control UV LED from your aquaaero. You might as well be their fabwerks board if you are going down that route.

So it sounds like uv leds are no good then?

Can their lack of warmth be compensated for by adding a larger number?

Also, sorry for hijacking the thread.

It's fine :) a forum is about as much info sharing as possible :D

The control were more to turn it off during the day. Or is it also great looking in daylight?

Its personal preference. I don't like LED strips that much with the exception of SMD leds, but these tend to be more expensive than the cheaper "bulkier" variant. When it comes to UV lights though, they are not as "in your face" as your typical led RGB colours.

Too much LED lighting oversaturates the case and

1. makes it painful on the eyes (mentally too ;) )
2. removes and colour themes you may have due to everything looking the same colour.

Best thing is simply look on google for modded cases using UV lighting. Some are well done and subtle, some are tacky OTT and obsurd.

Darkside LED strips are awesome, and come in UV flavors. They beat the snot out of ugly old cold cathodes ANY day ALL day. The only negative about them is you can see the individual LEDs in reflections from reservoirs, etc. So depending on where you place them, and how reflective your build is, you might see purple dots.

Don't bother trying to control them via Aquaero. That's a waste of time. You can only control the brightness anyway. So you can either connect the LED strip to the motherboard and dim it via voltage control, or go old school using molex voltage reducers (never tried those with Darkside LED strips though).

Forgot about this thread :) I have ordered acablemod hybrid uv kit and a extra strip. Then I have both RGB and UV. If I then get tired of uv in the long run, I have the RGB :)

agree on the cold cathode being ugly and obtrusive, but you gotta agree. they do product the best "even" and softest lighting in a case. Only part is that you have to hide them well.
