Do you think that the new 3.1 standard will become that popular as the 3.0 is now in the next 3 years? Would you consider a motherboard that has 3.1 A MUST at this point in time?
Well its defo going to replace USB 3.0 and motherboards are already including it. All motherboards in six months time really should be including this unless its a bughet H series one.
nope dont really consider it a must.. it would be nice if EVERYONE would have, that would make it usefull. Its like my 2 USB3's. They're fast on my pc but once i put them in the PC's at school i'm screwed.. heck not everyone even knows what a USB 3 is.
I really hope it takes off and from what I've seen the IEEE are pushing it fiercely. It has the potential to replace all data ports (HDMI, SATA, Displayport etc) and of course everyone would prefer to have unification in this area.....however if the manufacturers don't want to do it then we are all a bit stuffed.
A must? Hell no, no chance in hell. How much data transfer over USB do people do? I'd bet the average guy doesn't do much of it, and USB 3 is plenty fast for 99% of us.

So getting a motherboard without a USB3.1 now an adding a pcie card later down the line, is better than getting a more expensive motheboard with 3.1 support now?
I wouldn't say better exactly. I just think USB3.1 isn't a must, nowhere near it. Plus, right now there isn't enough selection of boards with 3.1 yet. I like to have my options open, so I think it isn't the best time to get a 3.1 board, unless you do a large amount of daily USB data transfers; then it might be worth it in that case.
