USB 3.0 Controversy

Is Intel truly giving their competitors the middle finger? Or are AMD and Nvidia jumping the gun?
I think Intel are being total douchebags and need to stop trying to force their power on smaller companies. The smaller man (AMD, Nvidia) will prevail in the long run just like this whole chipset BS.

AMD and Nvidia arent that small really

I think its a good thing when companies are this competitive - it will force the other companies to come up with something more revolutionary in order to compete, rather than come up with pretty much the same thing or similiar.

Then again, there is only a certain amount of competition before some1 goes out of business.

I would have thought that IEEE would have standardised it all...

We would have hoped.

Things seem to be going from silly to sillier for chip manufacturer relations. As a consumer, I don`t particularly like to hear of splits and rifts. Competition yes, but not some kind of tech-warz over minor things (imo).

These things just seem to be getting more minor, but bigger as a whole, collectively.

couldn't of put it better. =P

Update:

Chipset manufacturer SiS has decided to join in on the team of Intel competitors developing its own USB 3.0 host controller specification.

Nvidia has also decided to respond to the issues brought up in the Intel blog.

Oh this is looking as if it`s going to end up with a ludicrous situation.

We could end up with different ic manufs requiring different driver-sets to drive a port that inherently does the same thing (otherwize operates at 1.1 or 2.0 depending on ... whatever)

Some1 does something different and 4th parties dev on that basis and we`ll be screwed somewhere in terms of compatability.

Theoretically, as with preset day, u install ur `up2d8` OS and USB2.0 works. Now this could lead the likes of m$ to have to detect correctly what port is available and install accordingly. Detect correctly ? (or else install drivers like the chipset afterwards).

I hope I`m wrong here. This is crazy imo.
