Upgrading soon, need some verification.

Yeah totally underailed thread... OP got his answer. Don't think a flame war will help get him another answer.

So OP as we established. Your board won't work with SLI(unless there is a BIOS somewhere that adds support for it). So you can get the 980ti you want now, but if you plan on 4k you will need a new board if you want playable framerates as SLI would be the only solution atm. Good luck:)

Well this was awkward.

OP, you didnt mention the exact model of the RAM you currently have in your PC so am not sure if my post will be beneficial. It would be best to get the same modules.

I understand that you managed to get SLI to work on that board, however an x4 slot will definitely bot be enough for a 980ti :D good luck with the upgrade.

With some luck in the silicon lottery and the willingness to conprimise on some settings you could very well run 4k with a single 980ti. If the 4k monitor is G-Sync then even better.

Thanks for taking the time to find the actual question among the pile of irrelevant stuff, guys :)

1. Yeah, I am not going to attempt another SLI on that mobo, especially with good stuff like 980ti.

2. As it is for the RAM, i can't check the model now (coz am not where my PC is), but from what I know, the only thing that is absolutely crucial is to get the same DDR type. Speed is also important, but I guess even if I miss that (which I am not planning to do) it will just downclock the faster RAMs? I am planning to get 2x same DDR type, size and speed (probably different manufacturer tho) so I think that should work together fine ? I don't know if I can find exactly the same chips where I live, that's why I ask, but if I do, I will surely get the same.

3. Yeah I guess that's what I'd be looking for initially for UHD. Just experience some 4K gaming on mid-high settings in the less demanding games, and if I get any more than 30fps I'd be happy. For the future, a second 980ti (accordingly with a new motherboard and everything that comes with it) might be an option.

Wooosah! Zen is restored and the thread is on track, Kudos to you guys.

Very wise decision ;) it's always advisable to SLI with a pair of dedicated PCIe 3.0 slots, while you can do the driver/firmware modding it's just not the same and who knows what the long term damage is to the board or your bus.

Seems you have this pretty much in hand also, be better if you could get matching RAM but as you say they will just clock to the weakest modules if not and you can always tinker with the timings and frequencies later, although to be perfectly honest I don't know how well quad channel would hold up or if your CPU IMC would be happy with mix matched DIMMS.

You should easy be able to get some regular 50+ "average" FPS with less demanding titles in UHD on a 980Ti, but definitely need that SLI goodness for guaranteed 60+ frames.

Happy upgrading dude.

Thanks for all the help guys! I think, I've got it all covered now with your help. 980ti and some more RAM chips it is! Now I need some opinions about a monitor, but I started another thread, so if you're interested you can see it here
