Upgrading Ram's + Mobo for 1155

Hi everyone!

Well, I'll get a good start by saying I'm pretty noob overclocking.

My current PC is my signature, but I'm thinking seriously about changing some components such as the ram and motherboard for a Patriot 16GB Black mamba 2133 and MSI M powwer or MSI GD65 GAMING... dont know wich one of those mobo's.

Currently I Oc casually, but Ill like to have my PC overclocked 24/7 so I need to know that you think about those mobo's and ram's.

Also asking if its really worth to OC my 580 Cu II or not, beacause right now I gain 2-3 fps...

Hope you can halp me

Thanks in advance.

If it's FPS improvement you're looking for then a gpu upgrade would be far more beneficial then a new mobo/ram(doesn't make a differene in FPS).

If you need the ram then go for the 16gb kit. If not then don't bother upgrading. For the motherboard an upgrade to a GD65 won't get you drastically better results compared to Mpower. Mpower on these forums is considered to be one the best overclocking boards in the Z77 line-up.

Well I dont really know if its worth to buy a 770 4gb GPU while I have a 580 with just 2 years of life... or upgrade the lacking components I have right now like mobo and ram's, wich are by far the "worst" items for 24/7 OC.
I bought those components 3 months ago beacause I had like 500€ to upgrade my pc, and now I have more money in my bucket, so I was thinking on a nice upgrade.
Anyway, I think I can focus on a 240GB corsair Force GT, save my money and see what can I buy in the next months with the price drops of 1155 beacause of the Haswell series...
What do you think¿? I really need some help clearing my ideas.

770 4gb is pointless. If you are happy with the 580 then keep it. Otherwise a 7970/770 are the cards to get.

An ssd is always the best performance upgrade to any pc. A Corsair GTX neutron, Crucial m4/M500, Kingston Hyper X(or 3K), and Samsung 840pro are the drives to get. Other cheaper options like patrioit, mushkin, and adata are also decent.

Why it's a 770 4gb pointless? Isnt that good?
Im happy with my 580, but if its really worth to change my GPU ill do it. OFC I know that its way better any new card than my 580, but I bought mine for only 200€, so its not that bad to change it in 2 years... I think.

About SSD's, I can buy any of those you mention, so Ill go for the Neutron GTX.

My last Q for today: Is there any other option than the MSI M-Power for 24/7 OC? Ofc in the same price range. I know its quite good this MSI board but dunno if there's any other cheap high end specs mobo like the M-Power. (Love the black and simple aesthetic :D)

Mpower is the only sensible option for OC(price wise) for z77.

My neutronGTX 240gb is amazing and i recommend it!

770 4gb is useless because on 1080p 2gb is the max you'll use. With a 256bit memory interface it can only push so much information at one time and adding more vram won't change anything because it's data path will limit it. Stick with your 580, IMO it's still a very good card and if you're happy then great! It will make the investment worthwhile. New gpus will be out by end of year so you only win by waiting.

I was thinking... Is there anything that really make's a difference between buying 2 or 4 module ram's? I mean, IB works with dual channel, but will it work with x4 slots?
And what about frequency, IB can work over 1600?
I ask this beacause I dont really know to buy this http://www.alternate.es/Patriot/Pat...000_(2133MHz)_Quad_Kit/html/product/1013478/?

Quad 2133 ram's for a 3570K... or same ram's Dual 1600...
Price is not a matter.

;)

Edit: Any other really good Ram's arround 150€ / 16GB like this one's or G.Skill Sniper?

As far as I know you can use quad-channel RAM with a dual-channel motherboard. Compatibility wise, I don't think there is any difference between a set of dual and a set of quad-channel RAM.

As for other possible RAM, you could take a look at the Mushkin Radioactive or Blackline modules.

Ok thanks for answering yassarikhan786.

Can anyone clarify my doubt of the dual and quad channel?

I prefer to ask before buying 4 modules and then it would have been better to buy only 2.

Someone please help me?

Regards ;)

PS: I've been looking pretty much on the internet and I have not drawn any conclusions, dont think that I have not googled for even 2 hours.

No more than 16gb because home premium only supports 16gb unlike pro/ultimate..

Other than that just buy the ram. 2x8gb sticks if you can... seems to be becoming the norm.

So, its better for performance to have 2 modules instead of 4 right?
Ill be looking more ram's, but those Patriot looks quite good :D
Thx everyone for your time.

;)

It will stress the memory controller on the cpu if you use 2 sticks in the correct memory slots. Less stress will mean higher cpu overclocking.

Better oc'ing with 2 sticks. Not much a difference but you may save an extra month or so in life expectancy for the cpu.
Edit: i read my last post. Wasn't very clear sorry.
