Tripp

too many shrooms
so i have the itch an i am gonna upgrade my rig, i was going to wait for steamroller but as there are no server steamroller chips in amd's road map, i am just going to go for an fx8350 and a gigabyte 990f6x ud5.

Okay...

haha sorry bit random i know just had a alphacool rad sat here staring at me the past few weeks, an i just recently had a close family member pass away, so i am hoping if i plow all my energy into finishing my rig then maybe it will help

Aha, okay! Enjoy your upgrade mate! I do expect a rig gallery (and maybe a build log).

Sorry to hear about your family member, I hope you're alright! :(

Go for it! You'll see a improvement with quite a few games, such as planetside for example which is pretty notorious for not liking bulldozer chips. I have a 8320 and it does brilliantly with games, although its pretty crucial that you have the windows update that optimizes 7 or you should get (can't believe I'm saying this) windows 8, as it is much better when it comes to making use of the cpu effectively.

yeah i really wanted to wait, but as it stands its not looking great for steamroller making it out next year

well the server cpu's have always come out before the consumer cpus, an as there are no steamroller sever cpu's set to come, then i highly doubt that the consumer cpus will

Aren't there some apu architecture based server cpus coming out or am I getting mixed up? I have a feeling 2014 will be the year of the apu as far as AMD are concerned. Well, apus and overpriced 8350s(aka the 9590/9570 etc etc). GG AMD is all I have to say :l.

yeah there is that i suppose, but its not the high end sever units, their only 4 core low power based units.

What a bummer that the 8350 is not supported by your current mobo....

I would be tempted to get the 8320. (still an upgraded CPU, but not quite as great as the 8350)

The money saved on the 8320 + the cost of the potential mobo..........maybe then sell your 7870, and with the cash you'd then have upgrade the video card....

kinda depends on how you need the more power.
