Hi guys, just a basic question to try and give me piece of mind before i lay out all my cash. Im currently running a 775 socket system, (Q6600@3.3) and am desperate to upgrade. Dunno if i want to wait for sandybridge? I've been interested in the I7 950 for a while with probably the asus sabertooth and dominator ram. I have read that the 1366 is being replaced in the summer which is always going happen i guess. Can anyone good reason not to nip on to overclockers and do the upgrade now?

AFAIK Sandy is coming early new year so if you can wait until then go for that, but the I7 950 is a awesome chip.

If you don't take the plunge at some point you never will as there will always be socket upgrades.

Nothing to stop you flogging your kit and moving up the ladder once the price market stabilises once released.

Yeah thats the sort of reply i needed

just ordered the I7 950 for 199.99, cheap as chips. Going for the asus rampage 2 Mb, can anyone recomend any tri channel memory? with store link

Even though Sandybridge chips may be faster the actual boards aren't a patch on X58 for lots of reasons. For example they're only dual channel so the tech is more of an extension of P55 rather than 1366. ETC. ETC.

Yeah i thought as much, back in the day when i bought my Q6600@ stock p5n-e mobo corsair value memory and duel 8800 gts cards it was top of the line. So knowing i`ll be stuck with the kit i`ll buy tonight for a long time i thought id seek advice. If u can only upgrade when is sensible u may as well get the best eh.. Just hope overclockers give me a good chip that hits 4ghz easy

Any 950 will hit 4ghz with its eyes closed. Look for D0. I don't know if they make the 950 in C0 but I doubt it. Early 920s were C0 and well, they were a bit bumburps. I made sure my 950 was D0 before ordering.

I had a feeling you had ordered it from OCUK. Knobs, why couldn't they have priced them like that four days ago when I got mine, I could have ordered it with my Survivor.

I would say buy the 950, you will get 2 months of enjoyment before sandy bridge comes out.

Also the 950 is a FANTASTIC chip and can do everything you could possibly need, we don't know yet about sandy bridge.
