Upgrade Advice

Hi all,

At the moment i have an agp intel motherboard and cpu (3.4 @ 4.08)

cooled by mach11.

With a budget of say £1000, what motherboard/cpu/graphics setup do you guys recommend?

SLI I think is a must.

Hey,

I think that the following would be a good upgrade path:

nVidia 7800GTX 256MB (x2 SLi)

DFI NF4 SLI-DR (skt939 mobo)

AMD Opteron/ X2 CPU

That kind of setup seems to be a good way to go at the moment; the choice of CPU is dependant upon what you mainly use the computer for, but the dual cores will come more into play as time goes on.

I`m with Stocky. If ya need new RAM, I`d say any 2GB kit of PC4000 as well. Ya should be able to squeeze all of that into a £1K bracket, though your PSU might need to get replaced too.

SLI-DR (£140ish)

XFX 7800GTX EE (£365)

AMD64 FX-55 (£495)

or:

AMD64 X2 4800+ (£455)

I would go for the second, put under the mach and perhaps spend the extra £50 on upgraded ram, dunno what you have atm, some nice mushkin at a certain well known retailer atm

I dont disagree either:

2x 7800GTX £620 - or 1x ASUS DUAL 7800GT's (2cores in one card) £550

2x 1GB sticks of GSkill ZX £155

1x SLI-DR MOBO (not EXPERT) £140

1x FPS 700w PSU (but might not need PSU upgrade is you opt for the dual GT option)

You could probs get grpahics and CPU from an auction site, try and buy MOBO from respected seller or best to buy new.

My Power supply is a Tagen480w

Will this be enough power ok for SLI? I think as long as the PSU is over 400 am ok? You guys Agree or should I upgrade the PSU?

I think it is written in the manual to have atleast 480W, the Tagans do seem to be good PSU's - I think Kenny is using one at the mo...

I would personally go for 1Gb of RAM not 2Gb but that's probably just me.

1T Timings is a must for me.

I'm using a 580W Tagan atm, awsomely good PSU.
