Updating Iphone 4 to IOS5

They actually took the idea from LockInfo, a system utility from the jailbreak community (which is still better than the stupid notification center).

Actually, a guy from the jailbreak community is now on Apple's payroll and helped develop their notification center.

I have never jail broken my phone. I never saw the need to?

I didn't jail break my iphone 4, but I did jailbreak my iphone 2g. It was missing so many features at the time that it was something you almost had to do.

I do miss some of the themes and programs from Cydia.

I have a question regarding jail breaking. Can you over clock? I know it sounds silly, but the iPhone 4 as well as the 4s are only clocked at 800mhz. And coming from an android Overclocking background 200mhz gave a nice bump in performance.

Yup... Been using that for 6 months plus now and love it. Have exactly what you want on the lockscreen.

That is why I shant be upgrading until there is an untethered jailbreak and that goes for IOS5 on my iphone 4 or upgrading to an iphone 4s.

That and the fact I don't think I could live without Backgrounder... Proper multitasking.

There have been people claiming that you can overclock by simply removing power management files... you can't. They overheat the phone because they run it at 100% all the time, so it seems faster. Without having complete access to the kernel, we can't adjust clock speeds. There are apps however, that shorten transitions and animation times to make it seem snapier.

Jailbreaking also allows you to removes useless daemons and language packs, freeing up memory, which does make it slightly faster.

What do those do?

biteSMS is what SMS should be by default on the iPhone (aka 1337 pwnage) and iBlacklist lets you blacklist unknown phone numbers and specific phone numbers so that they don't come through, like a call screener. I use this so the debt collectors get a disconnected signal when they try me, now I'm going to have to listen to my phone ring.

Well only reason I went for the 3GS was mainly because I was waiting for the contract to get on Orange. (at the time.. It hadn't) and when orange in the uk finally ticked all of apple's agreements the 3GS was just about to take over the 2g which I'm glad I waited for. Also my contract is up in a month or so, so 4s it'll be until the iPhone 5gs10bililon is released.

i just wanted to ask if anyone knows if i canjust buy the iphone4s from a uk apple store unlocked on the day? its probably a stupid question im asking but i dont want to line up for no reason, just want the phone sime-free. im in the uk btw

Maybe I am wrong? Idk.. What's wrong in getting the phone an unlocking yourself?? I am sure there will be plenty of unlocked one on Craigslist a week after release.

when i said unlocked, i meant carrier free, i dont want to be tied down to a contract, i just simply want to buy the phone but im not sure if i can do that on the 14th as thewebsite doesnt mention you can buy it like that at the full retail price. i h8 contracts.

AFAIK you can go to anywhere that sells them and pay retail for one without activation and walk out of the store with it.
