Up and Coming Computer

Hello everyone,

Over the course of the next few weeks I'll be combining all my video footage / images on this thread. So far, I've created my first video and expect to do some more once my NZXT 810 Switch and ATI 7770s arrive.

Enjoy!

Also, I hope you don't mind that I mentioned you in this video TinyTomLogan. You've been such a great inspiration

Have you ordered the 7770s?

I dislike the fact that Jeremy's channel comes in the recommended videos on the right :/

Not yet. I'm thinking about the XFX 7770s Double D edition in Crossfire mode. I'm only waiting for the NZXT 810 Switch to arrive. I'm currently using an old PowerColor 5770 card.

and who's Jeremy?

Get the best possible card you can afford - so I'm guessing a 7870? Maybe 7950? Then you can always add another later. A 7870 will be absolutely fine for 1 screen. To upgrade 7770s you'd have to replace both of them which is awkward...

Jeremy used to be a forum member here - until he was rude to everyone here and so was banned ^_^

Right now I'm using an 18.5 inch monitor at 1366x768. It's nothing special just a Philips 192E 720p LCD.

I'll have under $200 Canadian left for a video card.

How would you have afforded 7770 crossfire on that?

I'd probably say save up a little more and get a 7850. We don't generally recommend anything lower than a 7850 here tbh.

A single 7850 should be able to max out FPS on your monitor too

I'm pretty sure that one of the criticisms of the 7770 that I've read is that it's overpriced for the performance. Another is that the 128bit memory bus drags down CrossFire performance. I'm certainly no expert though, so maybe someone else can elaborate.

A few cards to consider:
XFX Double D 7850 at NCIX ($229.99 Can, with $15 mail-in rebate)
MSI 7850 Twin Frozr at Memory Express ($229.99 Can with $15 mail-in rebate)

Both of those are Canadian sites. Memory Express has cheaper shipping, so that might be a better option. They don't accept Paypal though, which I know might be a problem for some people.

*waves from 20km away*

Yeah - I do all my shopping from NCIX. I'm also in Nova Scotia too! Sydney, Cape Breton ^_^

Another two weeks and I should be able to afford the XFX Double D 7850 without any issues.

Found another good one:

MSI 7850 Twin Frozr at NCIX ($219.99 with $25 mail-in rebate)

So the rebate knocks it down to $194.99. Not a bad deal at all. Sadly though, the sale ends on Wednesday. Also, not sure how much I like NCIX - their shipping charges can be fairly preposterous unless you snag free shipping as part of a sale or something.

And yeah, I'm in Glace Bay. :P

Yeah I'll have to wait for another sale. Don't get paid until next week.

Yuck, Glace Bay ... joking. I worked for Stream there once and didn't like it.

Good news. I found out my NZXT 810 Switch being shipped with Purolator is in Halifax and my BitFenix extension cables are in Moncton, NB. I should have them by the end of the week (hopefully) ;)

I have an overclocked 7850, the MSI Power Edition, and I can play Crysis 1 at just under 40fps at 1920x1080, and it all looks perfectly smooth to me. That's with everything maxed on the graphics side of things.
Bearing in mind that you have 50% of the pixels I do, you should be getting a fair deal more :)

Case and cables arrived today. Wish I had known it already came with a 8pin extension cable but at least I have a spare.

Installed the motherboard, managed the cables and everything is running nicely. Nearly broke my back lifting it up on to my desk though.

I'll upload photos tomorrow for everyone. A moderator told me I couldn't make videos on this thread anymore :(

p.s only complaint I have about the case is the plastic and the top right corner of the side panel the paint is slightly chipped (came like that as far as I know)

Some photos not final, want to get rid of CPU cooler, graphics card and eventually get my hands on a corsair or NZXT Hale90 power supply. Enjoy ;)
