Unhappy with performance

Good evening all. Recently bought a new pc and playing call of duty 4 on 1024x768 on low gfx and on lots of maps getting low fps, bugging me bigtime as i expected it to be superfast!! :(

The following are the specs!

Intel quadcore q6600

4xcorsair 667mhz RAM

512mb Nvidea 8500gt

320gb hdd

19" monitor

Desktop resolution is 1280x1024 and is picture perfect outside of call of duty 4.

I'm running vista and have been told that performance in new dx10 games generally is not the best option. My gfx are all running in low for call of duty at the minute. Here's a link for the game requirements:

Is my gfx card poo enough to give me such a low fps in this game or should i straight away uninstiall vista and install xp home? Any tips or advice would be great!

Yeah I agree, COD 4 is a very graphicaly demanding game, therfore your GPU is bottlenecking the rest of ur system. Get an 8800GT if u can afford it and COD 4 will fly.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it! Thats a pity my gpu is of low quality, i'll have to look into getting a new one in the near future. I spent quite a lot of money on the pc so i don't have any money left lol! I know someone who is using a 8600gt i think it is and he's using xp and is getting a solid 125fps. Any views there?

If i bought another 8500gt could i duel them and would this work or not? How much would i be looking to spend on a nice card at a reasonable price. 8800 gt for example?

Cheers! hATE

You won't gain much more by SLi'ing them (if your mobo is compatible).

Best bang for buck right now is (yes you guessed it) 8800GT. At the resolutions you're playing at, GTX performance at a bargain price

You can pick up a 8800GT for as little as £155 I think. Got mine for £165

Don't waste another £50 on an 8500gt. Save that and sell what you have to get the 8800gt which can be had for ~£160 for the 512mb version.

If that is too much for you there is a 256mb version coming out which I imagine will be ~£120 (just an estimate).

In all fairness just save up the £160 or get the ati 3870 which is cheaper than the 8800gt and performs almost as well...

Seen benchies for it?

If so someone need a wrist slap. NDA lifts tomorrow iirc.

Just what is floating around the net Ham, amd 'leaked' info etc... Nothing concrete but it looks as if it will be cheaper and not quite as good.

Here is something

I really hope this is an ace up their sleeve and it kills the GT...

Edit: Seems like the GT is still champ - look
