Ubuntu 8.10 aka Intrepid Ibex

This should interest Ubuntu/Linux users

Well as of 30th October (Yesterday) Ubuntu 8.10 has been released. I've downloaded my copy, but yet remains to be installed. I can't believe this wasn't on the front page of :oc3d: (Hint, Hint) :p

Anyways those who are currently on 8.10 should consider upgrading to the newest version although it ain't compulsory

I upgraded from Hardy on Friday, and since haven't been able to connect to my wireless network (which worked fine with Hardy), and I'm enduring Windows to type this.... :(

I've always found wireless networks messy with Ubuntu especially PEAP WPA2 networks. Needless to say I'll be reverting back to Hardy this week...

Think I'll stick with the LTS releases from now on.

Whats the differences/features?

The main 2 things that I was interested in were a better network manager (which didn't turn out to be better in my case) and hibernation was supposed to be sorted, haven't tried it out yet though...

Have you tried a fresh install of 8.10 as with 7.04 to 7.10 upgrade my wifi went crazy, then I tried a fresh install of 7.10 and it worked, its strange, but its like something is missed during the upgrade.

I haven't tbh.

Gone so accustomed to Ubuntu just working perfectly from the offset, I'll go back to Hardy myself and look at upgrading to Intrepid later on this year maybe...

Go to System - Administration - Hardware Drivers

You should see if its listed there, coz normally these drivers are not "allowed" to be configured by developers.

Had the same issue with my Graphics and my Wireless drivers.

Hope that solves your issue

Nah.. It's not a driver issue at all. The wireless driver for my Intel 4965AGN card is working fine. Just can't connect to my wireless WPA2 PEAP network, which worked fine in Hardy. With that it was just a case of specify WPA2 security and AES network encryption and off I went. Don't know really....

Thanks anyway though.

The problem with the graphics driver I had was that I installed the driver in Hardy with Envy, and Envy doesn't like you upgrading to a new release without uninstalling the old driver first.

The problem was that the script kept whining about the xserver, even though I wasn't running X at the time, hence why I used Envy, would rather have installed it manually.

Since my last post I've re-installed Hardy and that's what I'm typing on right now.
