TSMC reportedly receives large 7nm and 5nm orders from Nvidia

Will anyone have any money to buy these new behemoths?

I'm hoping that AMD's RDNA 2 cards and the release of both next-generation consoles will force Nvidia to offer people a lot more for their money.

I unfortunately sincerely doubt it, especially what WYP said regarding circumstances will force Nvidia to shift a bit.

From what we've seen so far, this is not the case and they can (and most likely will) charge whatever they desire, since they know people are still going to buy their products.

I'll go for the best performance at a price I feel is right I'm less concerned about who that is so either side need to offer a good deal or at least a fair one.

I've waited a fair amount of time could have upgraded to a 2070S by now but instead got a PS4 cheap and plenty of games, but these cards are still a ways off yet from both sides. Skipping a gen longer for a better card seemed a better idea longer term even thou my sli 970's really have seen better days much better days they were so good when I got them :D

The main thing is I only really want a new card for cyberpunk 2077 not enough info about things beyond that atm with everything going on, which is why I feel november is a time we might see things start to come out.

It's a strange time for GPUs, getting some of my friends, who are currently using HD 7870 Tahiti cards (2GB VRAM), some tide over cards that I can get cheap for them.

I wouldn't want to spend big money on something that wasn't DX12 Ultimate ready if I want it to last for a while. A lot of people I know buy GPUs with a 4yr+ upgrade cycle in mind.

Didn't quite understand the bold part of your post.

The rest of your post I have personally started to adopt that mindset as well, for several reasons. One being actually listening to and reading Alien's posts on here, since he does say some pretty rational things.

As well as overall just life, growing up, other things in life take priority and you don't feel the need to buy the highest end stuff when you get older and maybe start having a family etc. Then you settle with the less expensive stuff, that still gives you a good overall experience. Cause in the end, that's all that matters.

Going pro? That is something that is extremely hard to today and something that is even more time consuming.

Edited my post for clarity. They are using very old GPUs right now, but I feel now isn't the time for them to upgrade. I want to wait for the new consoles to land, for pricing to drop/value for money to increase and for DX12 Ultimate GPUs to be affordable.

Basically, I want them to get an expensive upgrade when the hardware will last.

If I can get decent sub-£100 GPUs for them now, they will survive with their 1080p monitors until next-gen cards become much cheaper. Even a GTX 970 or RX 480 would be a big upgrade for them, and still do great at 1080p in most games.

Yeah that's the route I went, didn't want to do a proper upgrade with what's coming next gen, it's unfortunate that guy I recommended you for RX480's ended up messing you around like that, a couple of my friends also got some of his cards and he seemed to run out of stock shortly after. Now I just recommend any others looking for an upgrade look for good deals 2nd hand, but the best most seem to be able to find now are RX4/580's for a little over £100. I guess a lot of people are upgrading atm.

Personally the “new”’prices for GTX (now RTX) cards have meant that I for the first time in quite a while skips a generation. I’ve had 780, 980ti and now 1080ti and a part of the motivation for upgrading was to get a top card. It was expensive, but still doable. Then prices jumped 50% and just got insane. A top card is only on top for a short while and to me it just lost its appeal. But more than that,
Since I don’t feel I can justify a top card I’d just not upgrade before “I have to”. I wonder if they are loosing other sales too.

They're not losing sales. IIRC they reported their best year so far.

You need to understand why RTX cards are expensive. Apparently they are going to be much cheaper next round, but we will see on that. If they are not then it will be pretty obvious.

Also, their top cards have pretty much remained at the top. That said AMD could well bring out a monster this year, so that will also probably change.

I've said it a thousand times, but don't buy a 20 series card for the RT. Buy them for their overall performance, and if it's not good enough don't bother. If the value isn't there then wait for it to be. It's just been a slow couple of years because AMD f-ed up hard.

I managed to get in whilst the going was good and I did OK. I had two rigs in use at the time, so one got a 2070 Super for £438 (precisely) and the other got a 2070 with water for £420. The 2070 rig had a Titan XP in, but my plan was to sell that and end up with more than I spent on the 2070. However, things change, I had a windfall (basically free money) and bought the most expensive 2080Ti on the market. However, again I did not buy it for RTX. I just bought it because I know it will last me three to four years like my XP did.

RT is still in the stages of literally Pong from the 70s. Like early VR it simply isn't worth it. Maybe in three to four year's time that will change, but right now it is what it is. Nvidia are only boasting that the 3000 series will have much better RT performance, but that was never a reason to buy a card and won't be for a long time to come.

I think they know what AMD has coming. It really doesn't take rocket science to calculate with a rough idea of the cores and die size. From what I hear the big RDNA 2 card will be as good as the 2080Ti and with RT ignored until it becomes viable that's good for all tbh.
