trusty old 8800gts

My trusty old Asus 8800GTS 512mb (g92) is currently idling at 67 degrees which i know isnt right.Im going to get some Arctic Cooling MX-4 Thermal Paste Saturday, strip the card and give it a full referb to see if that cures the high temps but me thinks its on its last legs,so looking for a new card.It must be Nvidia, must be no more than £120 (seriously not a penny more) and must be of better performance than my 8800gts.I dont want eye candy,my Samsungs max res is 1280x1024 and im not fussed about 1080dpi multi monitors all i want is something that will run new games on medium without stuttering. My cpu is a modest AMD X2 2.4 gig and i have 2 gig Corsair pc3200/400 mem. Thanks in advance

Im going to be honest, you need a whole overhaul of your system. Hardly any
games will run nicely with that cpu, ram and a £120 gpu

this is my problem, new comp is out of the question unless i win the euromillions, however my 8800gts runs bf3 and all the call of duties on medium at 1280x1024 flawlessly. No stutter or lag at all,i have been using gpu review.com graphics comparison chart and my 8800gts blows everything away unless i want to pay over 150 quid which is deffo not an option.im looking for a little diamond in the ruff.ps i was actually looking at the 650 but on the chart my 8800 beats it nearly every spec

I agree you could do with a new system...

But if you're running at that resolution and just want something comparable(ish) to an 8800gts, you can probably get a 560ti/560 for around that kind of price. They'll perform better than the 8800gts I'd have thought, and should be fine at that resolution for gaming.

i did check the spec and it needs a minimum 600 watt psu, unfortunately mine is an OCZ ZS550,and im running 3 hdd,Dvd r/w and a SB Audigy 4 thanks for the link anyway

Hot and loud ? , have you ever own the card ?, i got Aus GTX 480 and its quaiter and cooler than my old gtx 260. Never go above 83C even after hours of bf3=]

83 is pretty hot...

He's giving advice there's no need to snap at him :P

I wouldn't invest in a 480, even if you're budgeting, it's a bit false economy, I'd stick to the 550 560 as a minimum, but the amd cards are probably better at your price point.

The fact is the system does need a refresh matey. :(

No need to be like that, I was just saying what I have heard about them, and whilst I have never owned one a friend of mine did and he hated it, and as SuB said 83c is actually pretty hot, my 6870 for example never goes about 60c and most of the time is in the low 50's
