Trading i5 4670k vs i7 3770k?

I have a Asus Hero and a i5 4670k in a current build. My idea was to delidd it soon why my components arrive.

Now, I have a friend that has a i7 3770k and a Asus Sabertooth mobo that is having some issues with the *thermal* armour and a h100i fitting in a case that he bought.

He is asking for a trade - my cpu + mobo for his cpu + mobo, the reason being that he could make everything fit perfectly with my stuff.

I was also about to buy a devils canyon cpu for a new build project in the near future but do you think that it would be a step back trading this for now?

I only game on the pc for now.

Specs:

i5 4670k
16 gb 1866 ram
Asus Hero
Gtx 780
AX760
Custom Loop ( gpu will go under water as well soon)

What do you think?

Depends on what you do. Do you do any 3d rendering or video rendering? If you do i would swap for the extra threads. The ivy bridge architecture is still good.

Well if you say you do pretty much only gaming, I wouldn't bother with the 3770K. Also, if I were you, I'd never voluntarily step back a generation even if it meant better performance.

nah - I only game and use the computer for web browsing and for work, nothing that will actually stress it apart from games and benchmarks for fun.
