Toyota production grinds to a halt as servers run out of disk space

This is sheer laziness to keep an eye on things!

I noticed my server getting low on space, I was down to around 6TB of space, around 250GB on each drive so they were all basically full.

I had seen this a few months ago and limited what was going on to the server and then started looking for replacement drives.

I managed to grab 10x 6TB SAS-3 drives for £297 bargain!! Yes they are 2nd hand but they are Seagate Enterprise Capacity drives, all just over 5 years old but have barely been used considering the they are enterprise drives.

So I don't understand how no one at Toyota could have not seen they were running low on space, I mean most servers can have an email or something sent out when running low on space.

I have just started my 2nd drive swap and Unraid sent me an email to reflect that!

Its not lazy. Its just incompetence. Probably had alarms which they flagged as ignore and realised too late that they were genuine issues that peaked over a threshold.

^ This. This happens a lot more than one would think. People are also extremely lazy today overall, no one wants to actually deal with said "issue", but rather just get on with their day as usual.

Got a deal there then :)

I'm up to 46.25tb now, I'm most likely going to clone the c drive onto a 4tb one at some point bringing me to 50TB but space is something I always hated running out of have plenty atm but it'll go in time, but 10 drives at that price is well worth it as I feel ex server drives still tend to last well it's not like drives don't fail but when they do it's a pain so always something you want more than you need to use for when that happens.

As for Toyota that is neglect and oversight loss of production like that must be costing them a fortune.

SAS Drives mate, they get swapped out by companies when the Warranty expires even if they have not been used at all.

I got a 2nd chance offer on Ebay at another 10 for £270 but I didn't have the cash to cover them, otherwise my main server would be fully swapped out to 6TB drives other than 2x 4TB drives.

Out of the 10, I am going to use 8 so I have 2 spares.

Currently sat with 78TB of space in my main server, eventually I will get round to dealing with my 2nd server but still got 6 more drives to swap from 4TB to 6TB then got 7x 3TB drives to swap to 4TB drives once all the 4TB's have been pre-cleared in the 2nd server.
