Hey guys, I'm a total noob here and been reading these forums. Love alot of the rigs here. I was just wondering is there anyone on this board who can advise me?

Some guideline specs.

i7 2.8Ghz 930 Processor

A Motherboard that will accept crossfire/sli config, basically where I can add an extra gfx later.

6-8mb ddr3 ram

500gb-1tb hdd

Either NVIDIA or ATI Gfx..

Unsure on PSU

Case - Don't really care but would like some decent cooling system, fans etc

Would like a Blu-ray optical drive with of course the usual DVD/DVD R etc

Anything else I've forgotten? Up there is basically a minimum spec..looking for ur expert views..as for budget £1000-1100.

Antec 900/902 case is a must if you want decent airflow. Or you could got for the new Coolermaster 690 II. But get some sharkoon fans or maybe some noctua ones. Corsair PSU's are probably some of the best, especially the 600/750 ones. HX is the prefix for them I think. ATI is where my money would be for a graphics card too.

motherboard something like a p6t v2

Ram anything by corsair,OCZ

HDD 1tb samsung f3

ATI 5850 or 5870

CM 690 II or antec 1200

you dont need a bluray they are pointless just get a decent dvd multi

cooling go for noctua as they are the dogs

enermax psu or corsair psu

i take it its goin to be used for gaming

do you need a OS monitor etc etc?

Something like this would be about right for your budget (basket was taken from ebuyer as i already had it open).

The power suply is amazing and is more than enough for a 2nd 5870 but if you wanted to try cut it down closer to £1100 then the 750w version of that power suply (HX750) would also be fine, but personaly id stick with the 850w as it will last you for a good few years and a few upgrades to come.

Thanks alot guys..just a few questions..for the Antec case would I need to buy any extra fans or is it all inbuilt? And what about liquid cooling systems that I see around here?

As for the optical drive:

this any good: LG CH10LS20 10X Super Multi Blu-Ray Reader & DVD±RW with LightScribe SATA Black - Retail

I guess with a decent screen, should all come up to 1500 or so? Of course before I do spend anything, is there anything new in terms of processors etc on the horizon, ie next few months that will affect pricing spec?

the antec case come fully fitted with tricool fans there not to bad on medium speed water cooling would probly need to be external unles ur a decent modder, like i said a bluray drive in a computer is pointless just get a decent dvd multi, decent screen something like a 24'' sammy or even a dell if u can afford it.

the only new cpu's atm are the intel 6cores they are aroun £850-£900,but AMD are bringing thuban 6cores out sometime in Q3 they are priced alot cheaper probly around £250 for there top end 6coreCPU

There is a huge premium on that 5870, unless your playing at 2560x1600 you wont be getting much benefit from the 2gb vram for the extra £75, im unsure about performance difference between the spinpoint f3 and the caviar black, and the antec 300 is a good case but i realy wouldnt like to put all that high end, high heat output kit in one, oh and you missed a power suply from what i can see so thats an extra expense.

All in all if it was my money id go with what i listed and put on either the megahalems + a fan or a titan fenrir cooler.

The ASUS HD 5870 supports voltage tweaks so its a good option for overcocking.

He only needs the 750w PSU and Im not going to start on about Antec cases Hunty, you should have learnt by now :D

There's nothing wrong with Antec cases in reality, it's just that there are plenty of better ones. It's worth searching around for something different as a lot of people have Antec cases.

the 1tb spinpoint F3 is faster than the cavier black not by allot but enough for the price diff,i had a antec 900 with noctua fans and it kept cool i had evrything in my sig exept i had a gtx 260.there old now tho so maybe a 902 or like i said a CM dominator advance 2

Yeah the CM 2 is a good option, but get new fans for it as the ones supplied are crap. Then get more to fill all the holes, especially the ones blowing onto the GFX card area, they really help in keeping temps down.
