To upgrade from my trusty Audigy....?

For the past 4 years (or maybe more) I've been using my trusty SB Audigy Gamer card with a pair of Technics Stereo DJ headphones.

I do love my music (especially bass), and I was wondering....

1. If I was to upgrade my soundcard but keep my Technics headphones, would I see any noticeable improvements?

2. If I was to upgrade my soundcard+headphones, what headphones would satisfy my need for bass? My current headphones will happily jump around on the table when up loud and don't distort at full volume.

headphones wise technics are prob one of the best, which model do you have?

I've never liked creative stuff, not sure why. But a im sure a higher end card can only help.

If u`r not bothered about jumping to 5.1/7.1, I don`t really think u`ll notice any difference using the same headphones.

Don`t know if any of those surround headphones might be a venture u`d want to entertain.

Ye that's what I'm worried about. I'm sure they'll help with gaming, but I'll be very disappointed if they don't sound as good or better with music.

RPDJ-1210 (iirc without taking them off :p)

If it's music you want the most then none of the surround sets will satisfy you. Perhaps a nice set of Seinheissers but if you have a nice set of classic Technics then I bought you'll get a whole lot better without spending £100's

I upgraded my sound setup last year, until then I was running on a SB Audigy 2 ZS with some crappy little Creative middle-of-the-market paper-coned speakers. I decided to blow my budget and go the whole hog:

Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS (I don't like supporting that little get but I wanted the card)

Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Speakers

Sennheiser (PC190?) Headset

The difference in sound was obviously great but the best feature was the improvement in software features for the X-Fi; there are a hell of a lot more settings to tweak for headphone users to create a better 'virtual surround' than the Audigy could ever do. The Crystaliser built into the software is quite nice as well, it makes everything you hear just that little bit more crisp and clean.

For me, the change is one I wouldn't go back on. There are a couple of upgrades (such as my upgrade to the NVIDIA 7 Series) where I would rather have never bought the parts in the first place, fortunately I am yet to be let down by the X-Fi. The Satisfaction of being able to go into game settings and select 'Creative X-Fi' then 'Extreme Quality' from the Audio settings will never wear off (well, at least not until the next wave of HD Audio is out).
