updating a motherboard bios is pretty straight forward, make sure you dont have any appliances running in the house that could trip your power whilst your doing the update... Also make sure you bios as at stock settings before updating the bios too..

If you bios is running ok for you then there is probably no point updating...

It's recommended to update only if the update fixes an issue you are having.

Of course, I ignore this and update anyway but if something does go wrong (loss of power) then you have yourself a problem which is not easy to fix. It's very easy to update a bios these days, Asus have the EZ Flash software which pretty much does it all for you.

Personally I would update as x79 is relatively new tech and the updates include better usb connectivity, better gpu compatibility and improve system stability.

I'd also recommend updating it via the superb ROG connect via USB flash drive. That way if you need to flash again (although you should not need to)or any probs. You can without even having to turn on the mobo. ROG connect will flash the mobo in a sleep state.

The only time I ever update my BIOS is if there is a big problem that I am noticing or it offers support for an upcoming CPU. Other than that I find it to much of a risk considering my i5 hit 5.2ghz that I will update the BIOS and it becomes unstable.
