I personally thought about 1 770 then maybe add another later. I also thought get the 4GB because RAM doesn't double with Xfire/SLI. So what exactly is wrong with doing that? From what i've gathered watching videos, it seems like a good decision? Im still undecided though, i'm waiting to see if i can borrow my dads mates VAT number, in which case it's a 780. He's on holiday until next week though.
I'd wait for the 780 then simply because the performance gap is flippin insane compared to a 770.
Vram does not double. Every card has their own vram and it does not share it with other gpus. Even if they did it would be the same vram usage but combined into a bigger number.
Each card has their own vram. So if you had two 2gb vram cards they will each use the same amount of vram as the other because the game still needs to be offloaded to card #2 for processing: therefore the reason it does not double because the game engine will will seperate the usage of each card...
Card 1 will process...
Frames: 1,3,5,7,9,11,13 etc
Card 2 will process...
Frames: 2,4,6,8,10,12,14 etc.
