Thoughts on AMD Ryzen CPU SKUs

I think the price jump is more to the fact that the x's varients may come with watercooling aio's for the additional heat they will pump out.

Well, according to a report I read earlier, the 1800X will have 20MB of L3 Cache while the 1700 will have 16MB of L3 Cache. So if that rumour is right, there are differences other than clock speeds between the flagship range.

But again, until I see how this internal overclocking works the price increase seems a little bit much. I'm saying this because it suggests to me there are other factors contributing to the higher price. The 8c/16t CPU supposedly has four iterations. I could understand the automatic overclocking premise better if there were only two CPU's available, but not when there are four. Are there going to be four slightly different clocks for the exact same CPU? It suggests to me there is something more than that. I understand your point. I just find it somewhat hard to believe that we'll be able to buy AMD's flagship for €390. If that's the case the initial rumour of $350 was very accurate. $350 is €390 when you factor in the strength of the USD, the weakness of the EURO, and the VAT of Spain which I think is where the retail who leaked the information is based.

Yup, we definitely need to see what it does but that will all come with time. The Wraith cooler will no doubt add around £20-£30 too. And as I said elsewhere, if it can basically overclock itself and stay cool and quiet it's perfect for those scared of doing damage by overclocking.

While the 5930K was very popular for its additional PCI-e lanes, the 5820K could easily be overclocked to match it.

Yup that is why I have a 5820k. I was more than happy to run X8 X8 and did, without too much of a performance penalty.

As a side note, while I very much appreciate your comment, can I please ask that you stop calling me dude. I don't want to sound like a whiney bitch, but it comes across as more patronising and condescending than friendly. I don't know how others feel about it, but I always cringe when I see it whether it's directed at me or someone else. You're entitled to post what you like; I'm just asking it as a favour.

I don't use the term on any body no. I use it on those who I believe I can have a decent convo with and relax during said convo. I grew up riding BMXs so have always used the term any way. However, I also spent nearly nine years living in the USA. You would die a death of a million "dudes" out there.

So I will work on not saying it to you and you work on your tolerance and I am sure we can meet somewhere in the middle. :)

Sounds good. :)

Did you see my comment above? Here's the link to the rumour:

Well didnt they say or someone say only the X varients will have the self auto clock abilitys, thats why i leant towards maybe only the X's come with water aio's as they have defo said that the ones with auto clock will be able to tell if its on air, water or nitro.

So spending that kind of money and they just giving you a stock cooler ye know, an i know some of the top end air coolers can do aswell as an aio but i dont see amd supplying that.

Still catching up :)

Last night I made my dinner and then fell asleep on the sofa. I woke up four hours later lmao. Must've needed it, but currently catching up whilst watching football and waiting for a guy to come and collect my wife's PC chair.

Multi tasking. Something I am totally turd at.

I could easily fall asleep at certain points in the day (usually around 2-3pm), but I can end up becoming more tired if I do than if I had stayed awake and started doing something more exertive.

poorly written article that repeats itself.. I suppose these click-bait articles aren't meant to be read. my fault for clicking on it I guess... cash me ousside when you have something new to add to the conversation, how bow dah...

Excuse me? Have we missed something

OK had a read. Yeah, I kinda thought AMD were going to come in strong tbh. They've never really been precious of their cores. That was why so many people were worried when they jumped in a few years ago saying they were working on a 8 core CPU. Back then there was no mention of their version of HT either so people were just saying if it had so many cores it would be crap.

I've known for a very, very long time that Intel have been absolutely taking the pee. Honestly, I would really like to say the P word right now. Like the proper one.

If they could do so well selling Sandy for £160 at launch (2500k) then why all of a sudden have they almost doubled those prices? At maturity (like not on day one) smaller CPUs are cheaper to cut than larger ones. So why the price hike?

If AMD release this CPU at around the same price as the 4c 8t Kaby then they will be showing to the world just how ridiculous Intel have been behaving.

Intel wooed us with the Core 2 Duo. Here we are over a decade later and they are still selling dual core CPUs. It's absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't even mind if they were like bottom of the lake caked in mud crap CPUs with cheap prices, but £185? 'kin REALLY?

Far too precious of their cores (though god knows why) and far too precious over overclocking. I wouldn't mind if the prices were the same as Sandy and you could get an unlock for just a little extra but £185 for a I3? Dayum son. I mean we are literally talking -

Yup just saw that.

I assume you have seen The Shawshank Redemption?

Well, you know the part where Tim Robbins does that deal with the prison guard and earns his pals a few beers. Then sits back smiling with his hands behind his head?

That's me right now. I don't even want Zen (got everything I will need CPU wise for a long time) but I am just happy for others.

I read an article in a mag recently saying that you could build a budget gaming PC with the I3 K in for around £650. That is far, FAR too much for an entry level gaming rig.

I remember when the AMD Tbirds came out, you could bag one for about $120, then overclock it. A gaming PC back then cost around £350 or $450.

I want to see those days again.

As for Andy, he spent that break hunkered in the shade, a strange little smile on his face, watching us drink his beer...You could argue he'd done it to curry favor with the guards, or maybe make a few friends among us cons. Me? I think he did it just to feel normal again, if only for a short while.
