Thinking about a WC

Hi guys, have never done a custom loop before as i have a H100, im thinking about moving over to the 2011 socket or the ivy-e when it is released and would like to watercool. im comfortable in the setting up of a loop to the cpu my only problem would be draining. now i know that you can get quick disconnects that make it possible to pull a tube of and drain that way but how do the people who dont use quick disconnects drain their system? hopefully someone will be able to help ;D

one thing you can do is put a T a the lowest point and use that as a drain?

easiest way but isnt great for aesthetics.

you can open the fillport with a tube and a bottle and use it as a man made pump, plenty of youtube videos if you're unsure what i mean. Suck all the water out of the res, then because of gravity the water will fall to the lowest points if you keep manoeuvring the tubes at the top. So you can even unclip the top tubes whiles there's still water in the bottom. Then if the other end returning to the res is also at a high point, you could also unclip that, put that end into a bottle, then blow on the other end

Just human pumps really. There's plenty of ways to do it, just however you feel comfortable

When I drain my loop I usually use a bottle with a very long piece of tubing on it. Something like this: http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop...r-filling-Watercooling-Systems-pid-10035.html

What you do is compress the bottle which removes the air from it. Then you dip the end nossil in to your reservoir and release the pressure on the bottle. This will create a vacuum which pulls the liquid from your loop in to the bottle. You do this a bunch of times until the bottle is quite full then empty the bottle and do it a few more times until you can no longer reach liquid inside your loop with the nossil.

Using this method I can usually get about 50-60% of the liquid out of my loop within 5 minutes without spilling a single drop. The rest of the liquid will usually be stuck in the radiators and blocks which are difficult to access with this method but by this time a lot of the tubing, especially around the reservoir will be empty of liquid and you can simply start to dismantle your loop and move the case around to get the rest out very easily.

Another method is to pull the tubing off a block or pump or res that is low down in the case and have a bowl underneath to catch the water. Then to get the rest out, simply place some tissue around the tubing and put it in your mouth and blow, this will push all the water out of the other piece in just just a few seconds. Be careful not to blow too hard however or water will splash everywhere

Just cut the hose at the lowest point and drain it in to a washing up bowl, bucket, large bottle or whatever else you have handy.
