Think I just got a pretty bangin' deal on a new PSU....

I am upgrading to a Crossfire setup and wanted to step up from a 500w PSU so I did some searching around eBay.

I cam up with a new and factory sealed PCP&C Silencer 750 Quad for $65 shipped.... Wow?!? Back in the day I used to exclusively use PCP&C supplies because they were unquestionably the best on the market (hope that hasn't changed). I had Turbo-Cool 1kw's in just about all of my rigs at the time and they were easily the nicest and most well built supplies I had ever owned at the time.

I am not sure what these Silencers retail for but I'm sure they sold for more than $65 yeah? I know my old 1kw Turbo's were $450 a piece back in the day.

You must be fairly new to the game then. PCP&C was regarded as the best of the best about 6 years ago. My 1kw Turbo-Cool was a 10lb supply and about 12" long, lol. It was absolutely beastlike.

I love Corsair products, I used to only use their memory, it was the bees knees!

I'm on a slightly different budget nowadays and can't afford those commodities.

6 years ago i was 9 lol im very new to building only got into it within the last 12 months or so really but these guys seem to be pretty decent even now... have seen some of their power supplies coming with 7 years of warranty which is on par with corsair

It used to be a whole different world back in the day. It was really just a tight-nit group of guys then, those are my boys for life!

PCP&C are owned by OCZ now. I haven't used them since. I hope they have kept the quality up.

That's a bit discouraging but going and looking at their homepage it looks as if they have kept their original lineup of PSU's which looks for the most part as if OCZ have kept their grubby mitts out of (hopefully).

Seeing the Turbo-Cool 1.2kw selling for $470 I'd reckon those are still made by the PCP&C guys, good stuss. I bet that PSU would rape about anything on the market to include current specced 1.5kw units.

How many rails for the Turbo-Cool 1.2kW? The Silverstone Strider 1500W has 8 25A rails.

It's a single 100a rail beast (114a peak). Everything PCP&C makes is based on a single rail design.

So, that means Silverstone are inflating their numbers drastically. The TC 1.2 is rated @ 1.4kw peak. If they are claiming 114a at 1.4kw there's no possible way the Silverstone is putting out 86a more at only a 100w peak increase over PCP&C's claims.

Every PCP&C also comes with a "birth certificate" if you will, they put each individual PSU on a load tester and include a print out in the box that it can competently handle the rated loads. Now that's gangster.

That is pretty boss. I'd buy one b/c of the "birth certificate". That or the Corsair AX1200. I dunno how the Silverstone Strider's rails are setup. I'm looking for a PSU that is modular and last a decade.
