How long has the iPhone been in development? Surely Cisco, who must have known what Apple were going to call the handset the iPhone, had plenty of time to challenge Apples decision on the name, after all Cisco must have helped develop the handset, because it's got their name on the soddin' thing.

Do you guys think this whole patant/copyright malarky is getting out of hand?

Is it time for an overhaul of the rules?

In this case I think it is perfectly justified and I think Apple are the dumb ones, considering that they knew Cisco owned the copyright. This is blatant stealing.

Apple did this purposefully, they darn well knew about the iPhone patent. Apple is using this as an inexpensive way to market their new product, no matter what the name ends up being people are going to know about it. It's a shady tactic but companies do it all the time.

That will work for Apple if they can arrange a scheme where they can still use the name. Cisco would probably consider anything Apple can/will offer as pocket change.

Cisco is heck of alot bigger than apple (money wise), Apple just has a better well known name than Cisco. This whole debate about the iphone has been goin for a while, i hope apple goes down on this one.
