The UK has slipped down the global broadband speed league tables

Not surprised. Speaking with a friend that works for openreach he said they have had so many issues, mostly getting permission to remove the old copper network due to current law and permissions from land owners (if they can find them, apparently u would be surprised how much land is owned by foreign businesses) to work.
Our government need to step in and that's what openreach are counting on

Bear in mind that the UK lead for a long time because of early investment - there's new technologies being introduced in coming years which will hugely boost average access speeds - we're just in the inevitable lull before that and other countries have caught up - this is a bit of a non-story.

Having lived and worked all over Europe and now living in the UK I can without a doubt say the UK is decades behind the rest of Europe and not just when it comes to internet speeds.

Haha I was so surprised reading this that I  !... Although it’s not that surprising, as after watching ”Green street hooligans” and seeing how they smash each others heads in, no surprise that they’re decades behind everyone else. They’ve got no brain cells left.

Wonder where the US ranks. We have terrible "competition" if you can even call it that and the whole net neutrality thing went to sh*t.

Another issue of that is that Openreach is owned by BT and until recently (After Ofcom stepped in) was just abusing their position since all ISPs wanting to offer fiber, with the exception of Virgin Media had to use the Openreach network hence making BT billions and didn't invest much of it back into the network. It's why we have such a stark speed difference between them and Virgin.

Well, when you wake up, you might see it came out a little insulting to the british intelligence :P or lack thereof.

Nah, not at all. A little insulting to the british intelligence? Not that I have high hopes for them to care about this little thread lol. And even if they do, maybe they would get a wake up call. Seeing as they are behind everyone else ^_^

Germany are not a good team anymore, Without getting political I'm not surprised they didn't do that well considering what's going on in the home country.

Well they didnt do well because most of the team are the same from the previous WC. In other words all of them are 4 years older.
