The Sapphire RX 480 will have replaceable fans

Pretty cool feature. Though it was never that hard to take them off in the first place. I think it's most convenient since you can just pull it off really quick and clean the heatsink under it instead of completely taking it apart.

Although I like the idea of maybe aftermarket fans for it.

Aye one screw as appose to 3 and a new proprietary connector, it wasn't that difficult before but it's a step in the right direction just hope they stick to it rather than have it as a one off.

If I get this model I'll probably get a few spare fans just in case. But replaceable fans is something that should become industry standard. You can replace fans on pretty much anything else.

I have heard that 80% of Sapphires RMA's are nothing more than fan related. By going this route, the user is not totally down while they ship their card in, have it inspected, and then wait for it to be shipped back. They wanted their customers to be able to keep using the product without the hassle of shipping and waiting.

They are saving a ton of money and hours of work for their repair department with that little feature, I say well done!

Sapphire Ed explains a lot in this video about the 480 and nitro 20 minutes in

Thanks for posting. I mod his streams, so I don't want to come off as self advertising by posting them. There is some good info there. It has been a hectic week.

TBH it's kinda sad how he tries to say that consuming 30% less power than a 390 with the same performance is cool, since AMD promised a much better efficiency and 980/Nano performance levels.

One of the best looking cards yet IMO. The back plate is gorgeous.

Must admit I was a fan of the silver one every one hated. It totally reminded me of my old Betamax player and had a lovely 80s retro thing about it (back when all stereos were silver etc).

I should have mine by the end of the month looking forward to it as I rate Sapphire cards highly

The Toxic is the silver one apparently. I may hold off for that :)

Having said that though I expect to see a lot of custom cards for the 480 so I will probably make my choice when they've all launched. That's if AMD can sort out a decent Linux driver though :)

If we're gonna get the same designs from MSI, Asus and Gigabyte (which wouls be the likeliest scenarios), my choice would be between the XFX and the Sapphire, unless XFX goes tacky, like the pictures they've been teasing for a while now. Then there's just Sapphire :D That backplate is really sexy.
