The Redline @ OC3D milestone thread !

Nice one Rohiric

I comfortably managed my 6 Million before the end of the month.

I was going to back off on the GPU folding again before I got moaned at again, however with a few people having dropped off on a temporary basis I'm going to keep going full throttle. Our average has dropped just below 1 million / day, I want to try and keep it as close as possible.

I will be back down to my perents probably soon so that will be half a day without any folding and probably a full day not going at 100%. That said when I do get down there I will be running my i5 laptop again and I will see what I can do about atleast folding on the Q6600 even if the 8800GT is pushing it.

If I can get away with it I will fold on everything, but my dad is a bit of an energy freak at the moment... n the say with the solar pannels doing their bit i should be ok with GPU + CPU folding. At night i might have to cut it down to just CPU.

Also, I'm looking at swaping out my (35w) i5 in the laptop with a (45w) i7. Which will be nice going from a dual core with HT to a quad with HT. Probably good for a 10 - 15k PPD bump (only gets 4 - 5k PPD atm). It's not going to happen before summer though.

Congrats on 6 million! I have my eyes set on 100 million now after passing 90 million a few days ago. With my 470s gone and the weird points right now my PPD is hurting. Against the wife's consent, I'm going to finally clock her 2600k get it folding as well as her 560Ti. They draw less at the outlet than the 470s did so it shouldn't hurt my electric bill anyway.

Congrats on 90 Million.

Any idea how high the 2600k will clock?

P.S.

After my previous post I have desided to give my old team a boost in PPD, but not for long. After that Everything except my 460 will be back folding for Redline.

Congratz to both of you.

I'm planning on getting a server in the summer (something small and cheap) but if I'm lucky I might find some good CPU that I can fold on when the server isn't doing much (aka most of the time)

Have you considerd a HP XW6400 dual Xeon workstation ??

j/k

No idea really. Have an NH-D14 on it though so hoping for 4.2-4.5GHz folding stable.

oh what if we are not kidding? how much is is that ws and what can i expect from it?

p.s. my rig wanted me to lose some ppd, so it shut down last night

, so i just found it started it back up

I guess it depends on what you wanted the server for, Because it uses server hardware it's designed to be stable, but because it's a work station it functions like a desktop (inc built in audio).

In the UK the XW6400s are now going for pretty cheap, not sure what they are like in canada though. I picked up mine with two dual core cpus (only thing missing was a hard drive) for only £115. They are cheap because the hardware is based around the first generation of Core 2 Duo (E6600 / Q6600) rather than the second gen (E8600 / Q9550). It's still way better than the netburst based XW6200s though.

There are some drawbacks. There are only 2 CD/DVD bays and two hard drive bays. It does have a single IDE port on the motherboard along with 4 SATA ports.

The plus points. Tower case but not huge and also very quiet. CPU upgrades are pretty cheap compaired to C2D. Two 16x Size PCI-E ports (good for folding). Built in audio. Built in LAN.

So if you are looking for something cheap it may well fit your bill.

Just got all my drivers sorted and FAH installed. Pulling a 8024 at 10.5k PPD. Gonna overclock this i5 to see how much I can get out of it!

I'm interested at what speed the i5 needs to be to produce 13k PPD. If you could let me know that would be awsome. Don't worry about being too exact though. I'm just after rough numbers to what my E5345 are equal to.

And great to have you pumping out some numbers again

Well at 4Ghz it hits 15k PPD so I would immagine at 3.4Ghz it would hit 13k. Its the very first generation i5 quad core btw.

I would have thought it would need a bit more than that, since the GHZ - PPD relationship is not linear, and if it was my calculator says 3.5ghz would be required.

But 15k PPD at 4ghz is good enough to make some estimates from, so thanks for that.

And I'm not all that clued up on the first gen intel 'eye' (see what I did there lol) series. So thats a quad core. 4 hardware threads + no hyperthreading?
