So, how many watts did we use in reaching 800,000,000?
100w CPU over 2 hours to produce 1k(pts) @14p/ watt = £22,400
Not actually as bad as I thought it'd be. It should be about that though as it evens out as some people would have using 7970s to fold while others folded on 4p 64c server blades. Also we have to factor in so many different power supplies and motherboards and their power circuitry efficiency etc that it would probably be around £30,000 (yes, you might fold in addition to your usual computing habits for some hours of the day but if you're a 24/7 folder then you obviously wouldn't have otherwise stayed on your machine all day and all night forever.
Around 160,000 KW btw.
